I had a pet chicken. She would answer my whistle when I would call my cat home. The cat and chicken would run side by side as they ran to greet me. Such a fond memory to this day. 😊

What a beautiful relaxing and educational video. I'm glad there wasn't any background music

I love how gentle and patient you are with them. The video is so soothing and informative, and of course the chicks are absolutely adorable! I could watch this all day.

You seem to really care for your poultry. Thank you for sharing this demonstrative video.
  • Dear Frederick, People who make noisy music-jarr-filled videos with a constantly shaking, swimming, zooming in and out camera and who never stop talking should learn from this wonderful video you have made. There is music in natural silence and peace which should not be killed off by man-made music or constant prattle. And thank you for putting your camera on a tripod. One of the curses of modern video making is hand-held cameras that zoom in and out of your face all the time. Please extend your video making to other subjects, although poultry is certainly my favorite. A good way to start one's day is not to watch the news, but with a video such as yours, or if you can afford it, to stroll through and contemplate nature. Thanks and good luck with more video-making.

Wow Frederick, I agree with Anzay Warid about your video. No goofy, annoying music and zooming in and out and making me dizzy. Your voice made this sound and look like a PBS documentary. One of the best videos I've seen on YouTube, and I watch a LOT of YouTube! Thank you sir for a well done video!
  • Love how the Mom hens are talking to the chicks. Adorable!! 🐤🐥
  • This is a great informational video Fred. I am starting to raise my own chicks from my flock so this video was great.
  • We had our babies hatch this afternoon; so pleased - 2 of them out of 4 - the other 2 i am expecting tomorrow as they were put to her a day later belonging to the others; i found this out from you. We did move her to a broody pen inside the main pen because the others would not lay in the other box and were disturbing her! She took to it all well. Another thing i learned from this was to use shavings under her and get rid of the straw from the nest. It is July and the natural time for baby chicks in the South of France where we are. The other birds and cock won't go into their pen at night anymore and are roosting on top of the broody pen as now it is far more interesting! Beautiful bit of film - thank you!

Thank you for this awesome video. I too want to breed naturally and this has helped me. And it shows how much you care for your flock.♥️

Cute, I love chickens ❤ Something interesting I learned is that hens don't necessarily have to sit the full 21 days in order to accept chicks. Last month I had 2 banty hens sit 2 weeks apart. So when the first hen's eggs hatched the 2nd hen abandoned her eggs and adopted the other hen's chicks instead. She had only been sitting one week. I ended up with 17 baby chicks out of 17 or 18 eggs. The chicks seem to enjoy having 2 mothers co parenting them.

What a wonderful video of communal brooding box for 2 hens and a flock of chicks. Great idea of nipple waterer and non-medicated feed. Watching your beautiful flock brings much joy to my heart. I miss raising chickens.
  • @eliseamiot5412
Great video, thank you. As someone else mentioned, it's so calming to not have background music. I wish we could still free range our flock. The foxes around here are so bold they take our chickens under our noses.
  • @crzrck
Fred, your youtube vocals have improved dramatically since 2014

This is an awesome video. Finally a video I could watch all day. I have an Ameraucana chicken nesting on true blue chicken eggs. I wasn't sure if I needed to get the chicks and separate them. I normally use an incubator but this has been a experience. I might give her duck eggs to hatch next.
