This Created College Football's Largest CULT ... (What is MACtion)

Published 2022-11-07
Tuesdays and Wednesdays are usually not known for college football but one conference decided to change that in the 90s. Since then, these games have developed a cult following and are known for the good things, bad things, and even downright ugly things. These games are controversial. While television viewership is at an all-time high for these games, stadium attendance is at an all-time low. I am talking about MACtion which returned last week and will continue throughout the month of November. But is this a good thing or is it a part of a bigger college football issue? Stay tuned to find out.

I grew up in Chicago and was a high school basketball player. You could always count on MAC recruiters showing up at games. Even tho the majority of players don't get recruited, knowing Bowling Green or NIU showed up at your game makes you a fan. Even tho I ended up at Illinois, I continued to follow the MAC. Now as a old man, in my little town in WI, I know alums from Kent St, Ohio, a few NIU and a married couple from Ball St. We watch most of the MACtion games and even a few on Saturday. I'll watch a MAC game any day of the week.

As someone who goes to a mac school I love it but it’s also the worst part of the year to go to games in our area because of how cold they are like most students at UB won’t go to a Tuesday night 8 pm game against Miami of Ohio because it’s cold and I could just watch it on tv
  • I love MACtion it gives some MAC or like the Sun Belt the smaller conference primetime games during the week gives those schools huge Recognition I wouldn't mind watching the MAC conference play but one either can't watch it or two they'd be other better games on television. The smaller conferences also deserves much more recognition and respect
  • I did not attend a MAC school and live nearly a thousand miles away from the nearest MAC campus. I’m clearly not going to be attending a game in person. Yet I love MAC football and watch nearly every mid-week broadcast. I have great respect for the conference. The MAC embodies the essence of what a college football conference is supposed to be. Regional member schools within relatively short travel distances for fans of visiting schools, less commercialism and a higher expectation of players to meet the academic mission. The MAC is a true university based conference, not free agent professionals dressed up in school colors who jump around schools in search of higher NIL payouts. Yes, watching MAC football means I have to watch weekday games because the broadcasting powers that be will only air the likes of SEC, BIG10 and Norte Dame games on Saturdays. They have too much invested in creating their own mini NFL. College football is slowly being choked to death. Only the MAC tries to retain some of the traditions and characteristics which made college football great. Unfortunately that means cheating the teams’ fans with midweek games to stay afloat.

Love and honor to Miami🙏🏾 I was today years old when i heard the term Maction. These kids deserve $ if the schools are thriving from media deals.

Love MACtion for the national exposure. Dislike it for the nearly empty stadiums. Also the Toledo-Bowling Green rivalry had their game early in the season. First to third league game. Each side hoping to start off winning and knocking out your arch enemy immediately.

The MAC has a focus on their conference and there is nothing compareavble tpo that at all. The students should show.
