Just a note that as of the latest ISC covering the Arrastra, it is indeed confirmed that the Orion cannot land planetside!
-
Honestly, your format for these unreleased ships is EXACTLY the type of content I love to see in SC. I get super excited about upcoming ships, and this helps me be patient for them haha. I just bought the Vulcan at IAE, because support gameplay is definitely my style. If you did a video on that ship, that would be pretty awesome π
-
Love the Drydock videos and the details of development of the ships. Can't wait to see more.
-
The Orion has been my White Whale for idk how long. I remember when it was first showcased, and basically have been telling myself ever since that once the ship was available to play, i would finally get seriously into SC and get a group together
-
Nice!! I like how you used the new backgrounds! Drydocks is perfect now.
-
YES THIS IS THE PERFECT VIDEO THANK YOU! Exactly what I wanted to see!
-
It's going to be quite the experience, being able to mine such massive objects. I'd love to see that sooner rather than later. Thanks for the great video, Farrister!
-
Fyi, the 384 scu is for personal cargo storage. Orions ore storage is currently estimated by CIG at around 16,200 scu.
-
Defending the ship is going to be a huge part of it. Good thought. Always imagined this beast being in high security space, unless it's funding/fueling a large fleet escort.
-
Yo dude I've been watching your vids since I first started playing the game 2 years ago. I mostly just watched your ship tours, but it's nice to see you're still posting a year later when I just picked up the game again. Keep going bro!
-
Love the drydock series
-
I'm going to solo it. π
-
I can't help but think that the Orion is probably going to get another size bump along with a price bump due to the announcement of the Arrastra.
-
For Player Crew, I would expect 2 - 6 people, for effective play, more if offering/planning some surface side ROC mining. Once again, great video of what is essentially an Org Ship.
-
Like a lot of the commentators, I also really enjoy your Drydock Series. Good Stuff, as always! π
-
Oo what are you working on next? I'd like to see some already in-game ships in these videos please π
-
Do the cargo spindles spin? I think that would make the ship look really cool
-
wounder if orion could be used as combat asset, if it can move asteroids, you could fortifie area for defensive position if you have assets or plan to build "mini space base/station" if they add something like that in game.
-
It's probably very safe to assume that the components listed on the website are outdated by now since CIG is in the process of refactoring component sizing and balancing due to the upcomming resource managment system. Thats why the more recently released ships tend to have smaller but multiple shieldgenerators for example compared to older ones with a single bigger one.

i feel this ship is going to possibly increase by yet another 100-200m roughly - and get a MASSIVE overhaul since the Arrastra was released. There are a ton more things that have to be developed for this ship to become feasible. But i think its going to become more of a platform like the Rorqual in Eve online. Its size is going to require some ridiculous upkeep but i do feel the size of this ship is going to get upgunned, up armored and possibly even get a larger hangar for ease of transfer for mined goods to planet bases, and a med bay. Since she is an older ship this thing i feel is going to get far bigger than what we currently have info on since we havent heard anything really on it since 2017 and a lot in game has changed since then. I look forwards to seeing what comes with this behemoth of a ship. Given the very little we actually know on the ship it very well could come back with a total redesign and be the size of a Javelin for all we know haha. Time will tell.
