A Dearth of Carbon (w/ Dr. Patrick Moore, environmentalist)

Published 2016-09-16
Dr. Patrick Moore takes issue with NGOs over climate, genetically modified organisms and the "truth" about carbon.

He says we were literally running out of carbon before we started to pump it back into the atmosphere. “CO2 has been declining to where it is getting close to the end of plant life, and in another 1.8 million years, life would begin to die on planet Earth for lack of CO2.”

According to Moore, it is life itself that has been consuming carbon and storing it in carbonaceous rocks. He goes on to say, “Billions of tons of carbonaceous rock represent carbon dioxide pulled out of the atmosphere, and because the Earth has cooled over the millennia, nature is no longer putting CO2 into the atmosphere to offset this.”

Climate change hysteria scares me in the same way that other ideological hysterias do: nazism, communism, racism, religious extremism. Once there is a group of people large enough to form a self-sufficient echo chamber, these things get out of control: they lose touch with reality and eventually start perpetrating atrocities.

Today at my job of 20 years as head grower at a large greenhouse in Maine, our high temp outside was 34 degrees. Snow and ice on the ground after an ice storm Thursday. We can't afford to buy CO2 and pump it into our plants to make them ready for sale by Mother's Day, when they have to be finished. Our customers are ordinary working people who grow gardens to feed their families and augment their grocery bill. The cost of pumping CO2 to our plants would raise seedling prices too high for folks to afford. We're a small population, poor state. So every door and louver was opened and fan turned on high to pump fresh air in, dry transpirating leaves, tighten up stoma and feed them what little CO2 they could get. CO2 is king, and vital for our business. Which is feeding humans.

This man needs a Nobel Prize for scientific knowledge, honesty and bravery! Sadly, he has no chance and we all know why! I'm sure many of us below have already awarded it to you! Congratulations Patrick!

The reason why we have annual fires in California and Australia is because appropriate Forest Management practices that would limit the wild fires are being abandoned.
  • this guy is not just smart and well educated and informed he knows how to comunicate it to us .... this should be mandatory viewing in schools

Happiness is growing trees to help life here on Earth.President Trump even mentioned in his speech that we need to plant trees, he's right. This is my third year of growing Monterey pines in the Mojave Desert a very drought adapted pine. I've been planting trees on my 20 acres out here starting to look like a Forest,🏕️

Notice 112 gave this the thumbs down - as Patrick says lets stop supplying fuel to their petrol stations and houses and see how long they last. Hypocrites are abundant not CO2.

I love this guy. What a breath of fresh air it is to one's senses to listen to Dr Patrick Moore. The voice of reason in a World gone mad.

I loved it that he called out the hypocrites like DeCaprio.

I have to admit as a nature lover the climate hysteria depresses the hell out of me. I'm glad to see there are people with some optimism about the subject. It seems the radical left would rather it be that the world is coming to an end. It's as if they pray for the sky to be falling. You would think they would be happy to learn that we may be benefiting the planet with C02 emissions rather than frothing at the mouth every time someone comes out with good news.
  • Thank you gentlemen for so much sensible, real information, let`s hope more and more people listen to it and act accordingly.

The term "Fossil fuels" is a term invented by the industry to give the false impression of scarcity! We knew in the 80s that oil shale is abundant, almost endless.

My farm was covered with smoke one summer from forest fires. The crop yields were quite above average and left me wondering if those smoke conditions were a contributing factor.
  • God bless you Patrick Moore... You are the voice of sanity in an Insane world !!!
  • @UKtoUSABrit
Dr Moore is a very important voice in the climate debate. I hope he keeps speaking out on behalf of common sense.
  • Oh man! I wish the world would just listen to this guy and wake up to what is really happening.
