A Government Program That WORKS | CHEAP Native Plants

Published 2024-04-18
It's a windy but beautiful spring day here in Southeast Michigan, so let's get outside together and make some improvements to the homestead ♥ First up, we have new peach tree that we purchased from our local Conservation District spring plant sale. We'll also plant a few new flowering dogwood trees - and we plan to start thinning down the few bradford pear trees we still have on our property. We're also planting (2) new concord grape vines to expand our orchard area from one lonely vine to a total of (3) now. Our brassica plants (cabbage, broccoli) have also been in the ground for about 3 days now, and we're already seeing sings of cabbage moths flying out and about. So the covers will go on the frames today, to keep them out. There are other options for cabbage moths like BT, but we found simply keeping the moths completely out does a fantastic job. We hope you enjoyed the day on our homestead with us, and as always happy growing where you are ♥

We bought 100 trees this year from our conservation district. We got 25 each hazelnut, elderberry, wild plum, and red mulberry for $87 including shipping. It's an amazing service. They ranged from. 2 to 4 feet tall and were very well rooted.

I’ve recently started watching ‘Anne of all trades’ and I think it was about two weeks ago she had an arborist friend go around with her to show how to plant trees and it was really interesting and I’m really glad I watched it. Highly recommend. He also shows how to prune in another video.
  • I got 3x6 mini greenhouse, that look just like yours, at Walmart. They are pretty good and less than $40. each! Used them for the same thing as you guys. Cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli did great! Thanks for sharing. God bless and protect.
  • I love the field of dandelions, The bees have started visiting mine this week. Spring has finally come!!!
  • I love dogwood especially when it flowers but also the stems of some have nice colours during wintertime

The dogwoods are in bloom here in Southwest Missouri and it's amazing! There's so much prettier than the bradford pears
  • Wow! Thank you so much for the conservation idea! I had no idea about this. Definitely taking advantage.

It's beautiful. I would love to make Dandelion syrup or add into tea

I love your channel. Everytime I pop on I just feel like you’re my parents who want to teach me and hang out. I never had that and it’s fun to just have such a relaxed environment to learn ❤

I hope you appreciate your soil. Mine is so rocky that you could never plunge a shovel into it like Todd did. I'm not even exaggerating. It'll be raised beds and lasagna gardens only for me.
  • In our area, it’s the state forestry service for Oklahoma. We’ve also ordered from Missouri since we are close to the border and have been able to get some really fantastic varieties for pennies.
