One of the biggest rising stars in the current metagame is Corrin, a swordfighter previously thought of as unviable in the early stages of Smash Ultimate's lifespan. Today we'll be analyzing what happened to Corrin, and how they made such a meteoric rise to the top.

Dunno, but as a day 1 diehard Corrin main, I feel unbelievably validated every time SHADIC or Neo pop off
  • @Elderbugiscool
Corrin simply is (in my opinion) anti-meta. They do well against a lot of common top tier picks, meaning that it was almost guaranteed that eventually they would rise to prominence in this meta. They are also very consistent and relatively easy to pick up, so that helps them a lot.
  • @AZSprocket
I believe Corrin was criminally underrated for most of the game, and is in a good spot now.
  • @Epikruss
I think it’s because she’s a practical modern version of Lucina, great kit that provides tools for almost every situation, and applicable skill ceiling for fundamentals of a casual or pro if your willing to put in the effort and time with the character.
  • @gqboygboy6930
Corrin’s moves in her kit are that good in the current meta with her massive up air, pin, back air, and more. She has so many consistent options. The fact that she’s also an anti meta character having fine matchups vs Steve sonic GnW Rob Kazuya etc also proves her case Shadic is also looking like one of the best players in 2024 and Neo is also doing well too. Even Sparg0 is playing Corrin more.

I love that the spread of characters in this game encourages a revolving door in the meta. Zoners come in to counter the "Safe" swordies and then we get the rush down guys back? I dunno, but is all seems positive for the game!
  • As this channel always says: Consistency is king. And Corrin has the options to be versatile and consistent. They don't have the highest strengths, but when you can exploit the opponent's lows, it works out.
  • @AhmadKazan-wk7ei
Corrin is swordie with a combo game that doesn't require you to do the most delayed landing aireal since final fantasy XV and thus can be more versatile while still retaining good damage output while also not relying as much on tech chasing/reading your opponent for every neutral interaction, has good kill confirms and safe killing moves.
  • @DarkAura19
Corrin's kit just feels so consistent. It always feels like whenever you need for a situation Corrin just has. Combos feel fluid, moves do what you want them to do, kill confirms feel right, everything with Corrin just feels like it clicks when you need it to in a game where there are a LOT of moments where it feels like something that should work weirdly doesnt work. Playing them feels a tad boring imo (and JUST my opinion) but I honestly don't feel too surprised to see Corrin pooping off suddenly. Feels like the tools were always there.
  • @Smabverse
I've had Corrin as my main from SSB4 all the way to the last update of SSBU, I haven't really been following the SSBU meta for like a year now, but a video like this shows me quite some things have changed 🙀
  • @riqua27
Just like what DABUZ said. You can't pin point on one aspect that make Corrin so successful. It's the combination of multiple thing. + Corrin main are getting better at FS DAir making her bad OOS option no longer weakness. + Their combo games are even getting better. They can kill after winning 2-3 interaction on average. In some case she might only need one. Look at SHADIC VS Yaura as example. + Footsie. So Manny didn't know this but Corrin has the fastest dash frame in the game (tied with Sheik). This in combination with the slingshot tech make her have some of the craziest micro movement in the game. + Insane MU chart. The fact that Corrin does well against GNW, Steve, ROB & Sonic. Most other Swordies usually do well against some of them. But Corrin is the only one that does good against all of them. There might be some more. These are just some things that you didn't highlight in the video.
  • I've been a corrin player since is started playing ult and i think they are in a perfect spot. Us corrin mains have almost always said she is good and people are finally realizing that. They fits perfectly into the anti_meta role and has many strong qualities, especially their frame trapping.
  • @blueheart9873
I think they're mainly just a countermeta character. People didn't like Corrin at the start of the game because Smash 4's version was better, and their moveset isn't particularly hype so it took a while before they got developed
  • @shellytonz2856
I think it's awesome corrin of all characters is becoming a true meta threat and I love her. I do think that in like 5 months tops people are going to absolutely despise this character though at the rate we're going
  • I definitely agree that a combination of Corrin's buffs and the meta did influence their rise to high tier. Another comment pointed this out, but I do believe Corrin's tools and strength make them a great anti-meta character, especially for a swordie. Thanks her range she can do decent into Sonic without sacrificing framedata the way Byleth and Ike do, thanks to her punish game and aforementioned range she can be played into Kazuya unlike Roy who has to play very carefully or Lucina who can space but lacks the kill power or punish game Corrin has. As someone who mains Lucina and Corrin, they make an excellent co-main or secondary thanks to this. If I go against a Sonic as Lucina I can always go to them if I'm not feeling her.
  • @xxvolcomxx56
When people talk about sword fighters kits being copy/pasted, they mean the fire emblem characters. Roy, Marth, Chrom, and Lucina. They quite literally have the same moves. That’s not like saying characters with sex kicks are copy/pasted because a lot moves in ultimate are shared but not blatantly c/p with slightly different move attributes.
  • @galaxyfam6471
I’ve playing Corrin since day 1 when her up b went like half the distance. The validation for how good Corrin is now is soooo validating.
  • @iloveyouwonyoung
Yay finally! I’ve mained Corrin longer than any other character, so glad you talked about them!
  • @deluxe1886
I'm a Corrin main since the days of Sm4sh and I'm so happy to finally see them being played at their fullest. I always knew they had a lot of potential
