Welcome to our first-time watching as we react to The Fifth Element (1997).

The Fifth Element is truly is an indescribable movie! The unique blend of action, humor, and of course romance makes this a viewing experience you cannot miss and must watch at least once.

Directed by Luc Besson, "The Fifth Element" (1997) stars Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, and Gary Oldman in an epic tale set in the 23rd century, where a cab driver becomes the key to saving the world.

The dynamic between Leeloo and Korben Dallas is pretty amusing but Gary Oldman as Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg left a lasting impression.

The film has had an impact on the sci-fi genre but it does seem to be one of those films that prioritizes style over substance.

This movie was never meant to be serious or take itself seriously. Its a scifi comedy. I think it was executed perfectly
  • @merchillio
One of the rare movies where the hero and the vilain never actually meet. And Chris Tucker is just perfect
  • Speaking of Luc Besson, I'm confident you guys would LOVE Léon: The Professional, starring Jean Reno, Gary Oldman and a very young Natalie Portman.

When they're reconstructing Leeloo from her hand, the hand is still grabbing onto a handle. When Zorg receives the briefcase with the stones, the briefcase is missing one handle. Details!!!

Ruby’s character was ahead of its time. The 90s predicted the rise of media mayhem,of the last 10 years and wrapped it up in one person.

When Zorg's assistant comes to him in the beginning talking about firing 5 hundred K cab drivers and Zorg tells him to fire 1 million. Then later Korbin a, cab driver, gets his letter of termination. So many subtle details in this film. What a masterpiece, one of my all time favorites!
  • Everyone is so over the top in this movie and it works. One of my favorite Chris Tucker performances. Just an awesome movie.

When Denise said “we heard this movie has sci-fi element” 😂 its like 101% sci-fi 😂
  • Some films are masterpieces but you can never watch them again due to the negative feelings they evoke. This film is endlessly rewatchable, which puts it near the top of the list for me. Entertainment should entertain and this movie definitely does that.

Gary Oldman truly is the modern day, "Man of a Thousand Faces"

All these years later and there has still never been anything like this film, a perfect combination of inventiveness, brilliant editing, and an aesthetic unique to itself.

The Diva Plavalaguna performance is, to mee, one of the greatest pieces of movie music... It's just SO cool! And there are singers out there who can actually perform it without autotune, which is pretty damn crazy. This movie is just so 90's, loved it growing up but haven't watched it in forever. But it's definitely up there in my favourites list.

the strength of this film is its re-watchability and fun on re-watching - something you wont comprehend on 1st watch

The guy who did the score for the movie didn't have much opera experience, so he wrote a vocal part that he thought would be impossible to sing, making it sound less human and more alien. Well, turns out the vocalist COULD sing the part and it is just a joy to hear.

Luc Besson came up with the whole concept when he was 16, including Divine Language that Leeloo speaks. In fact, him and Mila held whole conversations off-camera in Divine.
