  • Last year i had one of my drum students (teenager) ask me to teach them this as their first real song. Never heard of you guys before. But after transcribing the drum part and listenting to it over a hundred times while they play/practice it in our lessons, I really dig y'alls sound. Good Shit! I enjoy listening to and learning music out of my usual listening rotation. Thanks!
  • Under the weight of a broken nose It's not that simple, but he won't seem to notice There must be more to this So leave those sink estates and Let's book a holiday We're painting all the counties in blue 'Cause we're already boring And we're already hoarding What else have we got left to accrue? And the ramblers will say "It's got a marvelous view" But they don't know how many lives it took, no They'll never know what you knew And we're so calm but we're (fucking scared, fucking scared) And we're so calm but we're (fucking scared, fucking scared) And we're so calm but we're (fucking scared, fucking scared) And we're so calm but we're fucking scared of people like you Under the weight of some Sertraline A couple Prozacs, and now I'm pumping dopamine There must be more to this We've got a country house now Old dog has been put down now It's nice to be around trees Custom license plate On our Audi R8 How many grocers does one county need? And the ramblers will say "It's still a marvelous view" That treadmill still looms Your hedonic misuse So come on, one and all to see the apathy The reams of gray stencils that fill the tapestry I look to all of you and see a different fucking species Aspiration for a different destination to me Across the Pennines, there's a thin blue line, a knife and a mall I would do something, if it wasn't all so effortful 'Cause I'm so high, my brain can't even look at the fall And when you've reached the top there's nowhere else to go but-

The part at 2:14 hits me like a truck all the time cause it always makes me reflect on the shit that I've gone though and the part when he says, "I look to all of you and see a different f***ing species” is kind of moving in a way cause if you look at it the way I see it, it's like a person whose going through a tough time and being betrayed by almost everyone he's met and they've beaten him up etc. and his entire persute of anger he yells it out, bellowing it to anyone who'd listen and cared for him (this is my point of view so don't judge-) If I was put in a room and on a stage surrounded by the people that have been awaiting my downfall, I would most defiantly sing this

This is random, but this song got me through a VERY difficult time a year ago. Just wanted to admire its beauty before listening to it for the millionth time.

"And when you reach the top, theres nowhere else to go but..." The recontextualization hurts

I'm seeing Lovejoy live in August and it kinda feels like a fever dream. This was the first Lovejoy song that I heard and instantly fell in love. I even learned how to play it on guitar. I can't wait to scream this at the top of my lungs! I'm playing for my class on the last day of school to say goodbye! Can't wait to see these guys

I really need to ramble because I don't know if it's just me who didn't understand the line 'Treadmill still looms of your hedonic misuse', but I finally figured it out. This line is absolutely genius I love it sm, but anyway. I started with trying to find out what 'hedonic' means and basically it means connected to the feeling of happiness and avoiding pain, so hedonic misuse would refer to all the bad stuff this person has done in the pursuit of happiness and rejection of suffering or pain. Another concept that I stumbled across is 'hedonic treadmill ' otherwise known as hedonic adapation. It refers to the human tendency to be at a base level of happiness. Something may happen, good or bad, but eventually the novelty of it will fade away and we will go back to our base level of hapiness. So what I think this verse refers to, is that the person the singer refers to, the rich person, keeps trying to find happiness, he desperately tries to fight off the apathy that comes with having it all, but the hedonic treadmil, the adaptation to the changes, makes him stay in the 'place' he started, or rather his happiness levels stay the same, despite him trying to 'achieve' hapiness through all the means he has. No amount of money, houses, cars, drugs, manage to fulfill his need for excitement and joy, which I think ties really well with the line 'there must be more to this' as though constantly searching for something more, something to finally give him that satisfaction he chases. At least that's what I think it might mean. God I love lovejoy songs.
