Players vs Referees: Funny Moments 😂

I’ve been refereeing high school basketball for 12 years now, I’m now 40. I absolutely love messing with the players and having fun. Obv during the big time games, it’s 100% professional. But some non district, random Tuesday night? I’m having fun. Examples: -Kid makes a layup, I ask why he didn’t dunk it. Then point to a random player on his team and say he was talking shit bout he can’t dunk 😂 - Team was blowing out another team, Friday night packed house. They gunning for 100, I told them about the new rule of breaking 100 means they forfeit if the other team isn’t at 50. Players 100% believed me and looked so confused (they knew me as a good ref so they bought it). 😂 -Told a team to quit fouling while up by 30 with 3 minutes to go. I got no kids tonight and the wife and I trying to go get drunk. 😂 - Anytime I referee, if it’s a decent (or higher skill) game, I’ll usually have a general idea of a random city I can say I’m from. My best was quarter final 5A playoff, so I didn’t know either team. Random fans asked where I was from (they were losing) and I hit them with the most amazing city ever. A name NO ONE would know, if you aren’t from that area. They were stunned. I always say a different school from where I’m really from. It’s so funny. One lady actually believed me when I told her I played at that school I was refereeing. And that I helped get those banners up when I played. She legit was like, I thought I recognized you! I most certainly didn’t play at that school 😂😂😂 No clue if she still believes it.
