Detune "the anti-chorus" effect was a staple sound heard on many great rock tracks of the 80s and early 90s. Eventide introduced the effect in the late 70s on their H910 rack mount harmonizer (world's first harmonizer) used on everything from The Police's Message in Bottle to the intro to Paradise City to the haunting growl of Van Halen's Don't Tell Me What Love Can Do. It was a bit of a producers secret weapon and high-end rack mount effect for live performance. But decades later this effect is now available at a fraction of its former cost, yet still only available in a handful of pedal options. In this video I'll provide sound clip examples of three popular detune pedals. The Digitech Luxe ($149), the Mooer PitchBox ($99) and the Eventide Pitchfactor ($499). Let me know what you think in the comments.

The mooer seemed slightly murkier, and the bass-end is a boost-y mush going out of that piezo-box.
  • The one I have my eye on is the PITCH FORK (Electro Harmonix). The Eventide is a bit bright, but considering my lower end Eminence speaker tone, it may balance it out. Thanks for playing 316 to demošŸ‘

I have the mooer pitchbox, it make not have all the bells and whistles but its a very affordable option

The Pitchbox sounds like it is doing a great job emulating the EVH detune tone.

Hey man howā€™s the latency on these things? Do you have any kind of number in ms by any chance?

Hey dude, quick question! I'm a pedal noob, my amp (yamaha thr30ii) has built in wireless and I use a line 6 g10 wireless so that I can play without a cable. Of course, this means I have no pedals between the guitar and the amp. My question - Could I use this pedal in the 'Line out' section of the amp? Or does this only work if you plug it between the guitar and the amp in the chain?

Got to get your hands on the New Eventide Micropitch pedal.... Does all the best stuff from the 80's detune sounds, and nails Eddie Van Halens wide sound on Balance, and For unlawful Cardinal Knowledge. Also has some good delays, and studio effects. I would start with Pete Thorn on YouTube. It would cool if you can grab one for us to hear on your channel. šŸ¤˜... Thinking about purchasing one, and run it in true stereo to get Eddie's huge guitar sound. Eventide is coming out with some cool pedals lately. Stay Safe and Rock On my friend... Bill

This video reminded me why I have never bought a digitech pedal. Muffled, compressed, scooped.
