For someone who didn't want to be Queen, when she agreed to marry, well she sure took ADVANTAGE of all that the Windsors had to offer.

A great reputation and an admitted snob and bigot. She was right when she said "underneath it all, I'm not as nice as you think I am"
  • @sandralauzon9416
She lived outside reality from the moment she was born. Never having a worry about who picked up the tab.
  • @shutup2751
i will never understand how working class britons who struggled to put food on the table were ok with paying for the luxury lifestyle of a snob like this
  • @johnnyhock
I donā€™t understand how she died with Ā£4-7 Million debt, yet at the same time left Ā£19million to her great grandchildren ? I donā€™t remember hearing about a Clarence House Garage Sale of all her private artworks and jewelry ?
  • @shutup2751
i will never understand how the British media talk and talk about those from working class estates claiming benefits yet they do not say a word about aristocrats and royals inheriting fancy estates and millions of pounds for doing nothing
  • She was addicted to horse racing, usually betting on horses from her own stable, which were not very good. She didnā€™t lose a few Ā£, but losing Ā£100,000 on a single race.Yet she paid her staff poverty level wages.
  • Thereā€™s a sense of childishness and lack of accountability surrounding her unchecked spending, enabled by Queen Elizabeth.

The more a person learns about the Queen Mother the less you find to like or admire! In fact, she was a horrendous personā€”ā€”very vengeful, very uncompromising, very little if any consideration for anyone but herself, very entitled, very much only concerned with her own pleasures, very determined to ruin her daughtersā€™s lives in every manner possible if they dared go against her wishesā€”- not someone to admire by any means, IMO
  • @nancystevens7447
She once statedā€Iā€™m not as nice as people seem to think I amā€! Says it allā€¦ā€¦ā€¦
  • @LivingLegendMe
The little people of the UK simply do not matter. At all. Rishi just sent more billions to the lost war in the Ukraine, Charles lives like Louis XV, whilst people shiver through winter and millions rely on food banks, and we have no opposition party to all the madness.
  • She is recorded as saying she's not as nice as everyone thinks she is. Totally ignoring her 2 institutionalised cousins with learning difficulties their whole lives kinda proves it to me.

The Queen Mother's spending was notorious. She never accepted that she wasn't queen anymore and couldn't live quite the same way she had. It was a huge worry to the Queen Elizabeth.
  • The only way the Royal family are thrifty is on their wages to staff.
  • @Iamedsmum
The Queen Motherā€™s life was one of extravagance without accountability or restraint.

My father had a contract with her. Whenever she went to the Royal Lodge (most weekends), he was obliged to go ahead of her and check that the traffic barrier was in working order, so it didn't risk detaining her. It used to delight him that she was paying him mileage to come and see his grandchildren.

It's disgusting how much money they spend on themselves while people in their own country cannot afford to eat and pay bills šŸ˜”
  • @effedorf
The newspapers used to send her up as being a drunk and a gambler in the 80s. A lot of her debt was from gambling.
