Honestly, if Yahoo had bought Google, Google would have been ruined on the pure basis of differing business strategies. Its very likely we would not have the youtube we have today, or many of our freedoms with tech. Nor would we have android. Yahoo was not an internal innovator, but rather a corporate buyer.

Imo if Yahoo acquired Google at either purchase, I'm not sure if Google would necessarily develop into the company and brand we know today
  • @JustinY.
If Yahoo bought Google, just imagine how different Google would have become.

Sweden not investing in Norway in the 1970s when offered, to help them get the oil out of the ground. A monster missed opportunity

I miss those early, internet days: Yahoo messenger, their web games. Had some good times with young Yahoo.

Conclusion: yahoo was fallen because they stopped thinking the way users perceive it. That over-ads just ridiculous. Greedy at its best.

Make a video about Richard Branson ..... Virgin airlines and all

What's interesting is not only that Yahoo missed the opportunity to buy google, but also that of being bought by Microsoft. Microsoft tried to buy them for around 50 billions to compete with google and they asked for more.... So MS turned them down, fortunately, as this would have ruined MS... A couple of years later they came back to MS offering them to be bought for I think 37bn but by that time MS didn't care anymore and was developing Bing (which by the ways makes 3bn a year...). Now even the 4.5bn Verizon spent for yahoo in 2017 have been written off to a large extent...

Yahoo, AOL, MySpace, and Napster. All had the world in the palm of their hands, but ended up wiping them clean.

Yahoo failing to buy Google is similar to Blockbuster failing to purchase Netflix.
  • Great video. I didn’t know that Yahoo had a chance to buy Google before it was google. Great informative video

I actually took your skillshare class and thought your voice sounded familiar in your youtube videos. Anyways, loved your lessons and it got me into stock trading as a side gig!

Google actually went to Excite to sell themselves in 1999 but Excite rejected it it. Imagine that
