Old Conrail Engine on Rough Tracks

Published 2024-02-14
On February 13th, 2024, I decided to take some time trackside on some old Reading Railroad trackage, not too far from my house. But rather than Reading Company power on Reading trackage, it was a beautiful Conrail Blue locomotive in operation. These liverys are becoming extremely rare, so rare that I would estimate under 15 locomotives are still in this paint, so I was glad I could shoot it.

The snowfall of 2/13/24 provided some photogenic opportunities. At our first spot, I decided to video the Conrail engine coming through the snow covered cornfields, our second spot was a side-angle of the locomotive while they struggled with crossing failure, and our third location was in the Alleys of East Greenville at the old Ex Reading EG Station.

I hope you enjoy this short Reading Rail Films Production, Thanks for tuning in.

Great video here! You can’t beat that power or that scenery, nice little train they had in tow as well!

Last Conrail-painted unit I saw was one of the aborted D8.5-40CW units, and that one was on its way to be scrapped. Crazy to know there are so few out there now... even just 15 years ago there were still so many running on the NS. Anyway, it's cool to see a unit this much older. Nice cinematography, it really captures the atmosphere of a warmup during a Midwest winter.

Your channel brings forth some interesting family railroading history. My maternal great grandfather was Yardmaster at the Philadelphia Reading yard during WWII, when smooth and efficient delivery of goods and services was critical to the war effort. Thanks for keeping memories of the Reading alive. Subscribed.

This type of Pennsylvania was the norm when I was a kid. Now it is hard to find. So much new housing and retail. I used to watch the trains go through EG and south and cross 663 I remember when the trains were daily down to Philadelphia Those days are long gone

This is some top tier videography. Showing the details of the location, water dripping, etc. A+! Do you know where the other conrails are?

Very nice video! Not just trains rolling by. The scenery and composition are excellent and tell a story. My only suggestion is to get a wind sock for the microphone.
