About All In The Family:
One of the most acclaimed comedy series of all time, All in the Family with Archie Bunker as the irascible, highly opinionated, working-class family man who viewed the world on his terms and his terms only. When not arguing with his liberal son-in-law, "Meathead," Archie took refuge in his long-suffering wife, Edith, who tries her best to understand Archie's conservative ways and outdated beliefs.

Sherman's brilliance proved why Norman Lear was willing to wait for him, after his Broadway play finished its run!
  • The writers and producers didn't create enough scenes with Archie and George.😂
  • The golden era of television...George and Archie together was comedy perfection 😂😂😂😂😂

"why is it you can always remember everything except how to work" 😂

Sherman Hemsley embodied George Jefferson! That dude hated everybody! 🤣
  • This was the coolest thing to me as a kid Archie bunker and George Jefferson in the same room together

I loved how Norman tied 4 shows together and come up with 3 successful spinoffs the man was genius RIP Norman Lear

Fun facts: Sherman Hemsley was Norman Lear's original pick for George Jefferson to be on the show. But he had other acting obligations. So they invented "Uncle" Henry Jefferson as basically a stand-in until Sherman could start working. It took a lot longer than expected. This show "Henry's Farewell" is aptly named. After he walked out the door in this episode, he was never seen again on either All in the Family or The Jeffersons. Or anywhere else.

Always loved when two sitcoms got combined.

Sherman Hemsley said he was very nervous before his entrance because the show was such a hit and he had done mostly stage up to that point.
  • I'll bet any amount of money that to have that amount of on screen chemistry between actors that Carrol O' Connor and Sherman Hensley were the best of friends. 1:22 The level of acting with those two in this scene is incredible.

“I was always asking for a little brother…you know how poor we was; all we could afford was you!” Classic line
  • Sherman Hemsley said that when Isabel Sanford met him, she said he was "all neck." Seeing how thin he was back then (135 lbs. at the time), I can see what she meant. He said that when he was waiting for his cue in this first appearance, he was standing on the other side of that door terrified, worried about forgetting his lines and feeling like he wanted to run away, but he just focused on the job and got through it. It's fascinating how many people in the spotlight suffer from anxiety.
  • Sherman definitely made The Jefferson's. He was way better than the brother. He nailed the role of George. ( Isabel was great too)

I love how both men called each other by their last names. Never their first
  • All duded up with a flower in his lapel, or is that one of those things you squirt in your eye? 🤣Too funny.

You know, in a way, Archie helped get George into the house to do the toasting, since George said he didn't want to come inside. But Archie got him inside so that he could toast his brother. That's how I look at it, anyway 😳 I always believed that Archie's a good guy under all that bluster.

Sherman Hemsely stoled the entire episode with his first appearance. R.I.P.
