They could have used the ring as bait. Build a labyrinth. Put the ring in there. Spread some rumors. Wait for the nazgul to get lost in the labyrinth. And then wait for sauron to send his armies there. They'll get lost too. Now sauron has no armies anymore and you can just walk right into mordor. Then you fill a tea kettle with magma from Mount doom and hurry to the labyrinth and just pour it over the ring.

He did all side quests first

still only counts as one
-
Fun fact. Gimli is the only one in any of the films to actually attempt to destroy the ring.
-
I love how Elrond was about to be like, “Gimli no!” But then decided, “actually I want to see how this plays out.”
-
I read the title. Immediatly knew what this video would do. Still watched it. 10/10 would do again.

Alternate Ending, Sam: "I can't throw the Ring in the Fire, but I can throw you!" Sam throws Frodo, still wearing the ring around his neck, into the fire.

Was waiting for the Gimli Giggle, and I was not disappointed.
-
Even though it didn't work, it was kinda badass how quickly Gimli went right after it with his axe when so many others get tempted and immediately corrupted by it.
-
Legolas: "That still only counts as one."
-
This is how it played out in Gimi's mind
-
Aragon's face expression was like "Well there goes my character arc..."
-
It may be a magic ring but Gimli rolled all 20's.
-
Can we just marvel at 1) Gimli gave exactly zero farts about the temptation of the ring. Dwarves move in straight lines, apparently. 2) Dude just one-shot-bullseyed a tiny ring with an axe. Legolas' accuracy can take a hike.

Gimli: "I may have used mount doom to forge my axe a wee bit"
-
You know poor Bilbo felt that shit hard, a mere two rooms away.
-
Elrond: CAST IT INTO THE FIRE! Isildur: ... No. Elrond: pushes him off the cliff exits volcano "Elrond what happened? Where is our king?" "I'm afraid the power of the ring threatened to overcome him and he threw himself into the magma. My condolences. He died a hero."

Even the smallest axe can change the course of the future.
-
And in this variation it turns out Gimli is using an axe Aule forged and left for Durin the First.
-
Just like in the book, glad Peter Jackson changed it though.
