  • So you're not gonna strap a ballistic dummy to the front of a British cannon...ok

"Is it moral? Is it ethical? Well, these are questions we're not here to answer." Had me dying. 😆

As bad as it looks, the makarov method is probably the most "humane" since you instantly die after the first shot, but from the other ones, not so much

6:34 funfact! pressing the muzzle of the gun to the head like that, all that hothot gass is gonna follow the bullet into the skull turning it to mush. probabbly the most humane wau shown

That last part is pretty true. A lot of "humane" execution methods of the past century or so have been picked less for the benefit of the condemned and more for the benefit of onlookers.

A British hangman was once asked, standing on the gallows, if he thought the death penalty prevented crime. He replied: "I've never seen anyone up here twice."

Lethal injection is actually percentage-wise, the highest rate of botched executions.

My understanding is that the pistol shot wasn't directly to the back of the head, but more down at the base of the skull, to sever the spinal column, shock the brain, bring about instant unconsciousness and death. The executioners would wait in the cell of the accused, who had been taken to the interrogation room, only to be told that they were to be freed. They would enter their rooms in a good mood, not really paying attention, and suddenly the lights would go out...!

I'm not quite sure about the USSR, but in former eastern germany, the execution was carried out via "unerwarteter Nahschuss" which roughly translates to "unexpectet close shot". Basically, the guy was interviewed on a daily or at least frequent basis - but one day, as he entered the room, there was another guy, hidden behind the door. He would shoot a little lower than you did, more like the upper neck / lower skull, to destroy the part of the brain used for breathing, heartbeat etc., killing you instantly. One moment you'd be thinking you would be interviewed once more, next moment you'd never think again. If I wasn't against the punishment at all, I'd advise for this one.

Thailand seemed real considerate in their exaction method. "I Don't want to see them die" "Okay, we'll give you a tarp, that way you don't have to see a thing." "The other prisoners are scared of the gunfire." "Oh, we don't want to make them uncomfortable. Let's quiet things down and switch to a more silent fire arm."

  • Lethal injection is actually one of the worst ways you can go depending on what method they use. In the worst one they don’t actually use effective anesthesia. What they do give you is a paralytic so you can’t move but you still feel everything. After that the thing that kills you is sodium pentathol which disrupts the nerves that control your heart ad lungs but it also activates pain nerves making the death excruciating. To recap you are paralyzed unable to cry out as you are in agony waiting to die of a heartache and that’s if it actually works. Back when the protocol was being designed they knew that they couldn’t reliably sedated people to a point they wouldn’t feel it so they added the paralytic to make it seem like they weren’t in pain.
