A rare snow day in Austin, Texas!

  • I just realized that this video was recorded less than 5 weeks before the famous (and horrendous) "Snowcopalypse" that began in the wee hours of February 15, 2021, when probably a majority of Austin households had their power TURNED OFF -- on purpose -- because "Austin Energy" was directed to do so. It was below freezing outside and continued to be below freezing or reach below freezing every day that week. The media reported some "rolling blackouts" but the only time we detected our electricity turned back on was at 2:00 a.m. one night and it stayed on for only 45 minutes. It was so traumatic, because there was also a lot of precipitation that turned to ice, as well as snow and wind, etc. We could not even get from our front door to the car in the front driveway because our whole walkway was covered with fairly THICK ice. The temperature inside our home -- where we have a non-working fireplace and an electric oven, in other others no real source of heat -- got down to 42 degrees F for at least four days and nights. Shoot, I didn't even have a warm wool blanket -- because I live in Austin, right?! I can't sleep in my boots and I can't sleep when I'm too cold so I didn't get much sleep that week. The end of that week a huge tree limb came within a foot of falling on top of me -- due to breakage due to the heavy ice on it. I'm sure Jesus saved me from that one! That tree is now 95% dead. It tried to live, but didn't make it.
