9 Bizarre North Korea Facts → www.travelcontinuously.com/facts-about-north-korea…

I had to fly out of the Pyongyang airport and needed two North Korean guides to take me there. Then when I arrived, the airport was completely empty and I was the only one inside. Bizarre experience with Air Koryo flying me back to Beijing.

I was on a guided tour to North Korea with a company called Young Pioneer Tours. You can book here - bit.ly/2IX3imw

This video series is NOT a political commentary. It is only meant to document what it’s like to travel to North Korea (DPRK) in 2019.

I can only show you what I am shown myself.

  • Alone in the airport, but 120 men upstairs in the control room watching him on the surveillance cams.

When you enter a part of the game you weren't supposed to yet

As an introvert I always thought that I would feel more comfortable outside if there were less people on the streets but after watching this I creeped out and don't think the same
  • Security was a breeze because they watched you every second during your visit, so they know exactly what is in your bags.

North Korea is like the largest haunted house in the world

You said it was the quickest security check ever, my friend your entire trip was a security check

I once flew thru Helsinki, and had a long over night layover. I suppose I could have gotten a hotel, but I took a nap in the terminal. I woke up at 3:00 AM to full daylight, and there was absolutely not a single person in the airport. For several hours, I felt like I was in a sci fi movie. Love Finland!

I feel bad for that dude at around 4:56 because you just know that all he does all day is wipe down that railing and do some other seemingly pointless repetitive task. They have literal rock cleaners in North Korea. I saw a video of some poor woman who smiled when she was talked to as she was cleaning rocks in front of tourists, likely happy that someone acknowledged her existence, only to get sad when she was told to leave. It's a heartbreaking life over there.
  • “The only annoying thing I’ve found is there is like there’s no food here at all” is in North Korea

I am surprised they let you film so much. And even film the mishap with the doors. A friend of mine teaches Korean Studies at university and when she went there they always had to stop filming whenever something didn’t go perfect

I once was on the first flight out of Shanghai in the morning. I don’t know why but they made us use the last gate. I had to walk for 25 minutes after security through a completely empty airport. All the stores weren’t open yet and since I was very early, there were no other passengers. I waited in front of the gate and suddenly some other passengers came but when they saw me (foreigner) they must have assumed they were wrong because the flight was national. I asked them in Chinese if they were also going to the destination I was going to and then we were all relieved we were at the right gate. It was a big family and they somewhat adopted me during the flight. Whenever grandma handed out candy to the grandkids, I also got one 😂 turns out I was in fact the only foreigner. I know that because the flight attendant came to me and asked if my Chinese was good enough for announcements. I declined and so she gave me a private short security briefing and whenever important announcements were made she came by to translate. Was really nice.

There is a massive airport that is like this in the US. Memphis International Airport. The airport was built for many flights a day, some international but after Delta pulled out they never were able to find a replacement for Delta so the airport is virtually empty most days sometimes with only one or two flights going out a day
  • @Dr-Peppy
There is something incredibly eerie about the scale of things, and the entire building being devoid of life.
