It’s hard finding the right MacBook and it’s even harder when each model is so similar, but what if you were someone who spent too much money on these things and used all of them before. Or at least most of them. That would describe me too well. Let’s talk about it.

I’m going to go over quite a few topics. I’ll try my best to make your life as easy as possible for you and timestamped all the topics below already. But we’ll talk about the MacBook airs, pros, their screen sizes, storage, ram, accessories, and my own personal picks of what I’d recommend based on budget and needs.

Okay. So this has everything I learned after owning quite a few macbooks, and most of the Apple silicon lineup. I hope you find this information useful in some way, and I’d love to know what you think. After this, what are you thinking about getting? Did this breakdown guide you to that decision in any way? Let me know in the comment section below!

M1 air refurbished through apple with 16GB memory and 512GB SSD is $1099 which I was considering but I ended up going with open box good condition base M1 Air Gold from Best Buy for $605. It's in perfect condition and I'm only using this for taxes, typing long emails, Figma in browser, making invitations for parties and light stuff I don't want to use my iPad on and it's been amazing. I use my company issued laptop 16" M2 Max with 64GB memory for engineering work and that thing is way too overpowered and heavy for what I do in my personal life. Great content!

100% with you Jimmy! The 14" M3 Pro MBP is the sweet spot in my world.
  • @keiakoni
Thank you for the breakdown! My MacBook starting to sputter and beach ball more often so I'm in the market for new! I will go with the pro at the top of line

Thank you so much!! Soon to be college grad here who needs to move on from my 2020 8gb ram MacBook Pro and you helped me out a ton

Thank you a really useful breakdown guide on the MacBook range, I really wanted the Air for the lightness but have gone for the 16” M3 Max 64GB Ram for the speed and extra ports, it severely made me broke, but it just means I got to get some more £££ in and hopefully with a faster machine I will!

SOOOO helpful. I was overwhelmed when I opened the Mac site to decide on which model to purchase and in less than 20 minutes, you made my decision crystal clear--MacBook Air M3 with 16 MB minimum and a GAN charger. Thanks so much.
  • Yes, this video did help me decide which MacBook to get. I got the MacBook Pro M3 Pro chip with 36 GB and 512 SSD.
  • Great overview. Very helpful and excellent comparisons. Well done!👍👍👍

Newest MacBook Pro with 16 RAM and 1 T of storage is $2000. A great deal that will be top quality in 8 years.

Thanks for the lineup review and recommendations. I purchased a refurb'd M1 Pro MBP 14 (16GB/1TB) last July and for me it is the perfect travel device. Regarding external storage, I picked up a trick several years ago when I transitioned (mostly) from Windows. I format the drives with exFAT so that I can read and write to them from either my Macs or my Windows gaming computer.
  • Excellent video Jimmy, could I ask what are you better upgrading? The chip or memory?
  • @24hrstolive27
New to channel love the content, I got the m3 max 36gb with 1tb storage. Curious how much future proof years will I get, first computer for me so new to all this

Personally, before watching this video, I purchased a refurbished 15 inch base model M2 Air from Apple with only 6 battery cycles for $1019 about 2 wks ago. I only use my notebook for simple browing, YouTube, reading, etc. Essentially the lightest use case possible for most people and I wanted a larger screen for viewing which was why I didn't opt for the cheaper m1 Air or the 13 inch m2. I think for people like me, this is a perfect choice! The battery life, display size and brightness, and speakers are beyond great for regular usage

I have M1 Air with 8GB memory and 512GB SSD, and keep changing my mind because I am also high school student, who uses lightroom, photoshop, and blender. This is why I keep changing my mind. The price difference between M3 Air 15 and 14 inch m3 with 16GB is close. What should I choose? Should I go for the long run or just upgrade whenever I need to?
  • @bisho9243
the best mac is a used or refurbished one imo. u can get much more specs for the same price as the base model new from apple.
  • @ChapsPornprinya
I have a couple of questions. Should I wait for the upcoming M4 macs rumored for late 2024 or just buy the M3 now? I currently use the 2016 MacBook pro so it’s due for an upgrade especially because it doesn’t support software updates anymore. I do 3d design work but am also a student so, I need performance but also portability. Budget is not an issue because I am going to be using it for 8-10 years and I want something that will last performance wise. I checked on my iMac and I am using at least 32 g of RAM. I was thinking of waiting for the M4 max 14’ but those would probably have the same overheating issue as the current gen so I am not opposed to the 16’. What do you guys suggest I buy?
  • @JonAdamsTech
Great video! I am in love with the 14 inch m3 max in space black, it's been an amazing computer!
  • @lesleywhite
Any thoughts on 12-core CPU versus 18-core GPU? I'm pretty sold on the MacBook Pro M3 Pro
  • @djswoll
I have the 16” M1 Pro for corporate work and M2 13” air for personal use/side gigs. Wanted a bigger screen for personal use and bought the 14” M3 MacBook Pro then returned it (felt bulky in the hand and screen/palmrest was too small) and ended up keeping my M2 13” air. Just bought the M3 15” air yesterday and I have to say this is my favorite. Form factor and screen size is unbeatable. I have to say I am more comfortable working on it, having a bigger screen and using it for productivity, marketing work and online businesses.
