When your project gets past the prototype stage, it's best to get a PCB printed to design and print it. On today's episode, Ben shows you how to use EAGLE software to export the industry-standard files you need.

The best tutorial so far. I watched a couple of others but this one is right to the point without a lot of other talk.
  • New episode! Get an intro on the design software program EAGLE for your next project. Putting together industry-standard design files isn't too tricky after all

I can't thank you enough for this, Ben, I started with Eagle 18 days ago and have just sent my Gerber files off to Seeed today! The presentation is snappy, precise and fast. I use the pause button or rewind if I miss something(!) Your excellent, concise editing makes the whole thing short which means it's easy to find the bit I want. Again, thanks - and keep up the great work.

I recently discovered your show (love it, btw). You've covered everything! It seems like every time I search for a tutorial video, The Ben Heck Show shows up!  Thanks so much for everything you do!
  • @Ender_Wiggin
I have watched like 10 different videos all like 30 mins long and this is the best and most informative one. You hit all the topics i want in a timely and effective manner. Much appreciated.

One word about him "Amazing" I purchased a xbox 360 one handed controller (left/right) that he developed. It was the best purchase I ever made. He also will try to help you & has great customer service. I had a brain tumor removed & since then I can't use my right hand. I was so bored & felt left out. This product gave me part of my life back so many take for granted. THANK YOU Ben for all your help!! I recommend this product to any in need.10/10
  • @ImJuanka
i have no clue what all this is about... watched it all.... love the knowledge this man has. lol.
  • @dalekmun2010
This is a unimaginably brilliant tutorial, I can't possibly tell you how thankful I am. I would love to see you elaborate more on some design principles some time.
  • @DarkNemesis25
I seriously do not know how to thank you enough, I've been stressing about learning pcb development for a new job that may require basic board designs as part of product development stages and this was the perfect tutorial to get me started.. Thank you!
  • @cashe18
WOW!!! This is GREAT. I remember using EXPRESSpcb in 1998, and you draw everything like MS paint.
  • @BarryStaes
@12:05"Lets name it GROUND" XD Intentional or not, that Douglas Adams quote made me smile.
  • @Joey06_
That's exactly what I wanted to learn, but I don't know sh*t about electronics, I just got into this world a couple weeks ago. I guess I just have to study a lot about to first learn how to create my own PCB. I want to create a portable game based on a orange pi, to be as cheap as possible, and I guess the most I do myself, the less I'll spend, and making a mother board with all the modules on it would not just make it more organized, but original and practical, even would help improve the design. Also, I guess i wouldn't need to wait half an eternity for all the stuff I need arrive from China (yeah, I live in Brazil then definitely doesn't worth buying a single module here cause it'll cost 3x or 4x it value). Btw, thanks for this channel, you guys are being a great help, also a great inspiration
  • I know this is an old video, but I've struggled with Eagle all the time I've used it, so any hint helps. After you make the schematic, and switch to the board, all the components are lying in a lump. Rather than move them onto the board piecemeal, and risk getting an error message if you drop one, "that feature not available in the free version", grab the group tool, surround the bundle of components, right click "move group" and re-place the bundle within the boards boundaries
  • @JimmyPetersen
Great video, Ben! When introducing the schematics view, you mention that when connecting schematic components, you MUST use wires and can't simply drop the components next to each other for them to connect. In fact you can just drop a component next to another and if one or more of their connections "touch", they will be connected by wire automatically.

THE best "get off the ground" rundown on a PCB design tool on youtube bare none.
  • @JonPrevost
Fantastic tutorial. It touches on all of the important parts of working with Eagle to get a product created. I like how you showed the ERC but have to say, in one screen we see the trace, in the next it's missing ;) . ERC will show airwires :) Thank you.
  • @jjpg2000
When a new video file is uploaded to Youtube it's processes and made available when the processing is done. Youtube makes the lower quality files available first as they are faster to process.
  • @Floydzabarber
Awesome video, I really want to get into designing my own PCB's and this video I think is going to really help me get started.  Thanks for making it!
  • @DFX2KX
Well, order custom boards with ARM chips already soldered on. And you're right, I'm not sure where I'd get one (would likely make a somewhat larger, more powerful version of the Pi, just to make things like arcade cabinets with)
  • @Slot1Gamer
Depends on what you want to mod first, ben has a video on what equipment you need to get started with electronics (modding included).
