Despite not being known for effusive displays of warmth, Xi embraced Putin twice, marking a significant moment during Putin's two-day visit to China.
Following the informal tea and dinner event, Putin later emphasized the strengthening of Russia's strategic alliance with China in the energy sector during his speech at a Russia-China Expo in Harbin on Friday.
"Our strategic alliance in energy field has become a main framework of the overall global energy resources market. I am sure it will strengthen further," Putin said.

Xi doesn't do hugs, ever. For him to do this in such an open manner is a huge public statement Re. his regards for Putin and the importance of the ties between their nations.

Chinese are not prone to be demonstrative with their affection, especially President Xi & China Statesmen. But, the fact that President Xi initiated the open arm hug, speaks alot on how he feels for President Putin.

They feel comfortable, no tensions, no conflict, there's nothing to fuss about. Both leaders are on unusual level of personal friendship, they invited each other to their birthdays. Always treating each other with respect, there's no demands, only offers to equally prosper. This is how diplomacy is done, not by threats and blackmailing but by simple conversation.
