Peter Hayes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club first picked up the guitar at the age of 14 when he began trying to figure out how to play his mother's classical guitar. As he continued to play, his mother showed him flamenco and finger picking styles that had a strong influence on his playing and technique.

Peter would eventually go on to play with The Brian Jonestown Massacre and eventually form Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with Robert Levon Been in 1998.

In this episode of The Songbook, Peter stopped by to perform the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club song "Shuffle Your Feet."

Can’t believe this genius used to sit behind me in English class in California. Now one of my favourite musicians of all time!

I love him and his band, he and brmc are very underrated, so talented. He is in my top 3 of favourite guitar players💓

When Peter wanders away from Anton barefoot in 'Dig!' was a classic moment. 2005 Howl Tour was magical.
  • Met him before a gig, chatted for like 20 minutes talking about all sorts, such a gentleman and nice guy....and one of the slickest guitarists in modern rock'n'roll

It's so weird that he seems such a down-to-earth, almost shy, and quiet person and yet projects such a powerful and almost imposing aura when he performs live.
  • I'm around the same age as Peter and and the fact that our generation was blessed with a musician of his type and caliber is pretty extraordinary considering brmc broke in the early 2000s. You can hear all the influences but everything was blended so well into something people could be excited about. He had a cool image but also the songwriting chops to back it up.
  • I could listen to Peter just talking abt anything for hours 😍 and how tf is this not in my recommendation??

My biggest inspiration this man. I met him 5 years ago after a gig from brmc and he is so nice and respectful

I tried to play this Song "Shuffle your feet" with my ex-best-friend in my flat. Was fun and sometimes, I really miss him. He lives in Ibbenbüren, nowadays, with a jealous girlfriend, so....hm. but "howl" is just such a beautiful album. my personal favourite one of BRMC, I think.
  • This is a nice find, the vibe, setting, decor, Peter Hayes and a awesome song! You beauty 👍🙌🙌🙌🙌
