Would nuclear appeasement of Russia actually work?

Published 2022-11-27
It obviously wouldn't.

We can’t give into bullies. If Putin wants to launch nukes that’s his problem.
  • Narrator: recognizing the nuclear threat they decided to appease the Russian bear, so they could no longer use them to get what they wanted, thus solving the problem once and for all Johnny: but shouldn’t that just embold… Narrator; SOLVING THE PROBLEM ONCE AND FOR ALL!

Dude, this is one of the best videos on this issue. As a long-time subscriber of Secular Talk, the comments from Kyle and Krystal have made me me pull my hair in frustration. They don't understand brinkmanship tactics.

nah, it'll only buy them some time tbqh.

I'd say that Russia has been invading Ukraine since at least 2004. The Orange Revolution showed them that their former slaves were getting closer to actual freedom so they started the agitation which gave them the "unrest" in 2014 which was the excuse to send in mercenaries who conquered/created the "republics" in Donetsk and Luhansk.
  • Hey Daniel, can you make a video about Russian empire 2.0(mokeringly refering to the soviet union) and if it was "communist"? I just sometimes have thoughts that Russian empire 2.0 was just authoritarianism with a mask of communism. Can you make a video about this topic? Since you are someone from a nation that has been ruled by RE for a long time. If not, what is your opinion?
  • It was cool how you tied Russia and its appeasement to private (authoritarian) companies and other authoritarian governments. Most conflicts feel grey and morally challenging. This one actually feels like cut-and-dry good v.s evil. Sometimes, I wonder if Russia's nukes would even work, seeing how pathetic their military is. Either sit there and do nothing, or tip over and BOOM. Also, KITTY!
  • Hey daniel, https://youtu.be/mJzvI2YarJM in this video, i think in segment 1:58 to 2:12, it is discussed that ukraine didnt even have the nuke's launch codes with it( Ukraine maybe didn't have control over its own nuclear arsenal). Moscow had the launch codes of the nukes of your country and they were not willing to share it. So maybe, just maybe(i could be wrong), you guys have avoided your own death by giving up all nukes as in an alternate scenario where ukraine never gave up ots nukes, Vlad the mad might have used your own nukes to nuke ukraine and every one would be like " Ukraine just nuked itself". I was curious, what is your opinion? Just asking. BTW Putin's action is imperialistic(no doubt)
