It took decades but, I have to say, this tune is growing on me quite a bit.

This is one of my favorite Genesis songs!
  • I never felt that this track was a kind of ufo on this album. I always loved it at the place it is on the album. The music was jammed around Phil's drum riff and for me he's the shining star on this track.
  • dude you are basically following the music of my teens this is so wonderful to watch your face ... been there m, done that ... and yet to see it again ... thats special !!
  • At the time (1976) Phil Collins was starting to get heavily involved with his buddies from Brand-X (a jazz-rock fusion band) and it shows. A short, dizzying interlude before the next track, a galloping, whimsical tale only Genesis can come up with 🙂.

A brief, but lovely fusion of Genesis and Weather Report sounds. Wot Gorilla always makes me think of Weather Report's excellent album 'Tale Spinning' from around the same year. Chester Thompson also played with Weather Report at one point, as a matter of interest.

From Wot Gorilla? we can see a new evolution in the style of Genesis, powerful and symphonic, it can be seen in All In a Mouses Night in its instrumental part and In That Quiet Earth, the zenith is reached in Duke, which is absolutely spectacular.
  • I used this song as an intro for my program on a free radio in Italy (one the first ones) and many people asked me to let il play without speakin' on in order to register it...and i did it !! Beautiful times!!!!

Happy Sunday my friend. Another nice "synthy" instrumental for you. Definitely a workout for Tony. Lol Getting closer to "Afterglow".... it's a great album closer.
  • @NABIL7
It sounds like a Sonic game. Absolutely outstanding.
  • Fits the album great when you play the whole thing straight through. That musical interlude between scenes..

No congas... thats all Phil's kit. Phil was splitting time in Genesis and Brand X at this point in time (one of THE great fusion bands of the 70s), and this is an example of Phil bringing some of that Brand X feel in to the group.
  • I love this track !!! Mike playing jangly 12 string and bass pedals throughout and Steve colouring the whole vibe with his unique style and sound .
  • @mikelmart
In That Quiet Earth/Unquiet Sleep for the Slumberers is another instrumental from this same album.
  • This is a wonderful piece to practice to as a drummer. The hihat and bass drum articulations are actually quite difficult to pull off.
  • @NABIL7
I can't wait to see react to the trilogy who concludes this album.

A song that doesn't hurt, but doesn't ignite creative fireworks either. At least one of the four songs along with "Blood On The Rooftops" (my absolute favorite song on the album), "One For The Vine" and "Eleventh Earl Of Mar" that I can still listen to today without any problems.
