Welcome to 'THE Hole At', where Golf Digest's Derek Duncan (our go-to for all things golf course architecture) breaks down the hidden histories behind the most famous holes in golf. In this episode, Derek dives into the diabolical Par-3 8th hole at Royal Troon Golf Club (Host of the 2024 Open Championship). From its original design featuring a blind tee shot, to the addition and deepening of it's surrounding bunkers, to becoming one of the most feared and challenging holes on the course, Derek explores the fascinating history behind one of Royal Troon's most influential golf holes.

Wow... what a great video. The footage of Gene Sarazen's ace was an unexpected treat.

I love these breakdowns so much! Thanks for the awesome content.
  • Everybody loves these... Derek does a great job of explaining the details. Sooooo many holes you could do - how about that Par 7 in Japan? 900 yards of fun.
  • I love these so so so much, one of my favorite things on YouTube. Could I ask the audio mixer to please turn down the music slights like around 5:45 for example

Would love to see a study of 6, 7, and 8 at Pebble Beach (or 8 if we had to pick just one).
  • Troon Country Club in Scottsdale 13th hole is a replica of The Postage Stamp designed by Tom Weiskopf😊

Man I want to go play all these courses so bad, until I'm in one of those bunkers. Looks hilarious.

Great video…would love to see a breakdown of the fifth at Royal Melbourne (West)…another classic par 3
  • How about the 11th at Merion? I grew up near there and understand it wasn’t originally built that way. Many of the holes played across the road until they purchased the land where the 11th green and 12th tee now sit.

I'm new to golf, but I'm gonna play this hole on PGA Tour for Xbox just to experience it😃
