It turns out that OpenRCT2 has a bug and that the drop height stat requirement is actually 4 meters (13 feet) in RCT2 and RCT Classic. I forgot to say this in the video, but a download for the two log flume designs can be found in the description.

I don't know why but the design of the log flume (especially the shimmering gentle drop pieces) has always triggered my nostalgia more than any other ride design. It's just so iconically RCT.

4:56 terrifying, but good to know the next time I am on a log flume in real life
  • @TwoTonTiger
I had no idea log flumes were filled with glue haha - that part with the log rocketing through the bumps had me laughing so hard
  • the great thing about log flume cars not exploding on impact is that it's true to life. i've never been in a log flume ride where the cars didn't collide at some point. that's part of the ride.
  • @Fluxtrance
4:55 Had no idea log flume trains wouldn't explode on collision! Neat

Bit disappointed you didn't mention the fact that empty boats move faster uphill than full boats, and the uphill traffic jams it causes.

I haven’t played RCT2 for many, many years and only casually, even then. I still enjoy listening to you talk about it. It is very calming and relaxing youtube content. I appreciate that you have such an in-depth knowledge of the games working and programming. The same cannot be said for most other gaming channels. They play and enjoy the various games, but they haven’t taken the time to evaluate how the very code works and the way the game thinks. It’s an interesting and different take on playing a game.

It's a shame that log flumes in real life seem to be falling out of favor for the less interesting (IMHO) splash boat type designs with only one hill. Some of the good ones still out there actually can give you some airtime.

You make me have nostalgia for the days that I'd play RCT2 with my dad.
  • @Luckywitz
my logflumes always had the ridiculous longest queues

You can delete one station tile on your large design and add a photo section for more money. ;) I like the fact you can have separate one tile entrance and exit stations for the log flume and still have a huge number of boats. I put the entrance station on top of a tall mountain and then have an intricate design going downhill. The peeps get off at the bottom and the boats go back up top empty. It's expensive but quite aesthetically pleasing. :D
  • I actually never knew the boat wouldn’t turn if it was going too fast.

Aside from coasters, log flumes were my favorite rides to build. I once built a massive log flume with multiple tall drops and it went all over my park.
  • @ZontarDow
My local theme park removed our log flume and we all miss it. Damn you Six Flags.
  • I think the log flume became about 100 times more useful in RCT2 over RCT1 solely due to the increase in the number of boats. I also never knew about the speed limit! I feel like the reverser coaster needs something similar to this.

I just love adding photo sections to this ride because then people complement me on the cheapness of it.
  • @GarryDKing
It's one of my favorite rides to build in the game, no park is complete until it has one. My absolute fav thing to do though is make a drop that goes underground! It gives the ride a very high excitement rating

I sometimes click on your videos thinking "well, I know everything about this ride, but he has such an appeaising voice, I'm gonna watch it anyway". And I always learn something new. Keep up the good wok, gretings from France !
