[Left 4 Dead Beta] director_solo_mode: An official L4D Singleplayer Mode

So while we were playing other games late at night, my buddy @sgtpopper340 tells me about this console command he found out about for Left 4 Dead called "director_solo_mode" which allegedly has a whole host of different effects ranging from starting as a single player to being able to pause the game by hitting escape to even generating Half-Life 2 save files during gameplay. We found out that this was a launch command (meaning it wouldn't do anything when typed into the console but would change if added to the launch options) so I set this up on the retail disc copy of the game and, lo-and-behold, it had a bunch of features I've never seen before.
Has anyone heard about this before? The only info we could find was it being mentioned once on the VDC wiki and a l4d2 workshop mod.

that is actually really weird that a mode like this exists with no coverage whatsoever
