Wizards, demons and goblins collide in the world’s first trading card game Magic: The Gathering, affectionately dubbed “cardboard crack” by its 10+ million diehard obsessives. From dank, wood-paneled basements to international big money pro tournaments, Magic continues to flourish since its phenomenal debut in 1993.

VICE follows a professional Magic player who dropped out of college for a shot to be number one on the pro circuit, while two brothers wax nostalgic about the spells of old.

You haven't ever been truly entertained until you hear a beefy Italian guy use a boa constrictor's hunting behavior as an analogy for his Magic: The Gathering strategy.

Parents get your kids into Magic The Gathering. They won't have money left for drugs or alcohol

I’ll never forget, my math teacher was friends with the creator of Magic the Gathering. And he told us about how he played the game with a small group of friends when it was still in development and he has some of the original stuff hung up in his class room.

I taught my kids to play magic, and now we have big family games. My wife, the kids, and myself all against each other. It's a fantastic way for the family to bond and a way for all of us to have a common interest. I absolutely love this game.

My god, that Italian family seriously hit me right in the feels zone. I've never played magic in my entire life, but the way they respect the game and make it a good time like that makes me wanna give it a whirl with some friends.

The real tragedy is those cards at the beginning weren't sleeved
  • The ending with those kids was worth the whole watch. Hearing them call each other noobs and scrubs LMFAO.

I watched this documentary for the first time 7 years ago and I always come back every few years. Gosh time flies but I’m so happy this is what got me into magic.

Magic is the shit. One of the guys in the Army showed me how to play, than after that it was 12 dudes playing everyday for 2 years. love this game
  • @SeymourMattik
The two kids playing at the end legitimately made me smile... I never played magic, and have no clue what the hell is going on but watching those two just warmed my heart... great watch!!!

Anyone else freaking out because you want to know what's in that kids binder?! The mystery is killing me....
  • @alecmadman
Those kids at the end were exactly how I felt my first day learning about magic. Immediately hooked. The friendly competitiveness while playing against my close friend.
  • "No one's bigger than the game. The game has to be about community." Amen!
  • The Italian brothers make the game far more appealing than the professional players.
  • @BassRocker617
Shoutout to the brothers for loving their family and playing Vintage which is easily the most fun way to play the game
  • @ben2591
just watched this documentary without even knowing how the game works.
  • @arnramstrom5522
From 1995 till about 2001 I collected Magic Cards... never once played a game. I just liked the badass drawings.
  • So we're not gonna talk about the dude acting like he had state secrets like i can't show you this on camera or here in this store like WTF TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED
  • @wholesomematt
This was almost too wholesome, the brothers just getting together to play cards with friends. That is the EXACT energy we need in the world. this was a great watch
  • @aGuyNamedEr1c
The "Italian jock nerds" seem like they would be fun to play with. 😁
