James Hatfield, singer for Metallica, one of the biggest rock bands in the world, tells this story all the time. He was blowing out his voice every single night in concert. And this was during their black album tour so they've been huge for over a decade by that point. And he was still breaking his voice every night. Then he got a coach that taught him how to warm up. They made a warmup tape he could sing along to while getting ready back stage. He never had that problem ever again. I think he still uses that same tape even today - 40 something years into their career. I saw a YouTube thing they did back stage before a recent show and there was James, "mi mi mi mi mi-ing". So, it doesn't matter what genre or type of music or voice - warm it up, right?

Seeing that clip at the beginning made me feel so much better. I've always thought I just wasn't a good singer or that something was wrong with my voice, but after drinking plenty of water and warming up for half an hour, my singing and voice improved so much. Turns out I've been judging myself based on a semi-hydrated and unprepared voice.
  • again thank you because they're having me sing today instead of playing my bass and I have no control over my voice lol so I will warm up thank you
  • Fav is "beep". Made me feel that I can sing so many other songs unlike my regular ones. Thanks

  • 9:55 Hello there! I am a lead singer for a rock band that sings at all ranges covering journey, REO, Speedwagon, queen, etc. Our shows are about three hours long so you could only imagine what this can do to anyone’s voice after one show. I have done a lot of research on YouTube for good vocal coaches and discovered your channel. As a male vocalist I found you are the best that I have researched. I am 54 years old been singing all my life. I love your exercises and technique. It has helped me in such a huge way.. I now sing more relaxed. My range is a lot higher my voice a lot stronger. Thank you so much.. you are awesome!!!!

Oh my goodness, I was finally able to come out of the strained "I don't want to disturb anyone" voice for a moment! It felt so good!! Hopefully I'll be able to do that more because I have my first audition in two weeks and my voice isn't very strong. Years of not wanting to disturb people has really made it hard to come out of that quiet, strained singing 😅

Gave up singing in mu twenties because of anxiety. So horrible. And i fought with it. I made myself stand up and sing infront of lots of people even though i messed up hugely. Thought i would get used to it...that it would get better. It didnt though. It got to the stage where I was nervous singing alone. So sad I didnt have someone like this to help ke back then! Hypnosis might also be another option,, same as subliminals and manifestation techniques The one thing I love about this video is to use movement. Somehow, without trying it, I know it would help a lot. Watched the corny film "marry me" with owen wilson and Jen Lopez yesterday, and there was this kid who got blocked up in the mathalon. Their solution was also to make her move. Makes sense 👌
  • Love how pleasant she is and love this video for the drive over to the theater!
