Whats underneath the New Balance Rebel v4 running shoe? Check them out for yourself with this deep dive review, teardown and durability test. As a foot doctor I look at running shoes and running shoe technology a bit differently as I focus more on what foot types benefit from these shoes as well as the running shoe's functional attributes.

Some of the main areas we cover in this basketball shoe shoe playtest, and performance review of the New Balance Rebel v4

- The weight, durability, fit and playability
- What are the features of the insole, midsole, and outsole
- New Balance running shoe technology explained

thanks for this review! was looking forward to it! seems way different than the fresh foam more v4
  • yep love the shoes (I am 186lbs ) they have replaced my saucony endorphin speed 3's , best shoe I have owned since the topo cyclone 02 last year

I just bought one today because of this video. Thanks for the recommendation Seth! Hello from the Philippines :)
  • I just got a pair - couldn’t say no to a discount. I am just a runner for fitness. I can agree on your comment about heavier runner, which I am. Don’t know how long these will last. Only tried so far 12km in total and I love them for their smooth transition. I also have the V3s. The V3s are tight at the forefoot and, took a while for me to get more comfortable. V4 on the other hand, is perfect. My feet are what you call “high volume” and I’m in the middle between normal and wide. I got 1080 in wide and they feel a bit “plodding” in comparison. Thanks for the video review!

Thanks Doc, this was insightful. I’ve been looking at these vs the V3 vs vomero 17 fit more interval style running. As a heavier runner I’m leaning to the 17’s. Superblast look interesting too but @ $200 a bit out of my price range.

I have the rebel v4 and the elite v4. The elite v4 isnt as soft but bouncier. The rebel v4 is lighter and softer. It is so nice for running and also for walking and standing all day

I absolutely love mines. Yea the foam won't last as long as the previous version like 250 miles or more but I'm fine with that.
  • @pokethekat1
I ran 13 miles in two days with these including a four mile tempo run at 6:15 pace. They run a tad short but not enough to size up, which is irritating. Aslo, it's incredibly soft and feels like a negative drop when walking. These left my achilles and shins somewhat sore, similar to wearing a low drop shoe. I have run through three pairs of the Propel v4 and prefer those by far. Yes, they are heavier but they run fast. I returned the Rebel. I'm 5'9" 139 lbs FYI.

Hi Zach, I wanted to ask how big is the Boom insert in Sof's toe? In the video, it is not clear whether it goes to the outsole or there is a cloud layer after it.
  • @wc4865
Bro you have hair!!! Makes me wanna get mine done
  • @mar1og31
Hey Zach, what would you choose between the Ja 1s and the freak 4s for outdoors? Which one would be the best for someone like me (lighter and athletic)
  • @MinhNguyen-ev1zw
I know volleyball is not a usual request but can you do the Nike hyperace 3?
  • @SimpleShoes1
You should try Peak Taichi 6.0 they are really bouncy when your running but very mushy when your just walking.
