  • Gotta say that bar is like headlights through the living room window. My i3 has titlebars disabled, and the more I use an app, the less I need the menu. Just being able to swap foreground and background colors would go a long way to toning down the interface.
  • I was super excited to watch this because Ghostwriter has become my go-to for anything prose-related. Its "Hemingway mode" feature is kind of cool too, at least as a concept. Having my backspace disabled isn't really for me (since not being able to fix typos would drive me crazy), but I can see how it could potentially increase focus and volume of text. Thanks for covering this!

I've been using Obsidian but I don't need bells and whistles so I'm interested in this app
  • I have a simple use case, which is using markdown of books to prepare it for LLM's, and this video was great because the only problems you pointed out (few extra config options and the upper bar) really make no difference for me! thanks for the content!
  • I like super minimal editors and find Focus Writer neat, especially since you can customize your background. I use a background with reference information for my work.

Ever since I started using Obsidian, I've found I'm more interested in having my notes linked together in a meaningful way, being able to find them, seeing their relationship, the less I'm interested in an editor for "just" Markdown. In other words, all about the work being done. There's other tools for keeping time, etc, and they do a much better job.

Do you have any opinion on ThiefMD? It works well for my purposes and is the only one I have ever used, mostly because the mascot is Morgana from Persona 5 haha.

Since it’s a Flatpak app the menu bar issue is probably a theme problem. You can google for a command that will force all Flatpak apps to use a specific theme. Pick a dark theme and the bright menu bar should go away after restarting the app.
  • Thanks for taking a look at this; personally my main problems with Ghostwriter are 1) the ugliest icon ever and 2) it has some weird interactions with Wayland that cause it to show a white screen when you go fullscreen :(
  • Not be confused with the movie Ghost Rider... :-P I for one like simple Matt, so I might give this a look... Thanks Matt! LLAP

Ghostwriter can use pandoc for file conversion but cannot deal with the title section. So, it's good for writing a bulk of text, however not for the finishing part -- getting an odt, docx or pdf file and so on. The last time I looked into it Ghostwriter had some problems with Wayland. That may also be a deal breaker.
  • That white bar is there because it's a native Qt app. You need to change the theme of the app with something like qt5ct. Choose a dark theme, the menu bar will be dark. However, I wish there was a way to change the menu bar in the actual app...
  • Not about markdown, but can you do a review on dotdrop? It's the only thing you'll need to manage your dotfiles.
  • can you make windows 11; like i3 window manager ?plz do that

Emacs is a decent markdown editor LOL. No seriously the package markdown mode emulates a lot of commands in org mode. You can move paragraphs and stuff, add embark to the mix and execute commands on elements ....🤯
