A global technology outage grounded flights, knocked banks offline and media outlets off air on Friday in a massive disruption that affected companies and services around the world and highlighted dependence on software from a handful of providers.

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said that the issue believed to be behind the outage was not a security incident or cyberattack.

Soooooo....my guess is there's some software engineers that are gonna be unemployed Monday🤔
  • @MOONSHIPETH
Get your digital ID and digital money Nothing will go wrong LoL
  • Please note that this is not "Microsoft Software." The company was originally founded by McAfee (the antivirus people) and is privately owned.

don't set your updates 'auto', give it a week's delay when updating

If you understand the level of incompetence that happens in many big companies, you will understand that Boeing is not the only moronic big business. The management is silly, and the junior software developers are silly because all the good talent did not want to continually fix their mistakes, and left to a different department, or a different business.

who did release this update from CrowdStrike team without testing? he is our hero of IT-World....
  • @EricN73158
I keep telling people I don't update anything, see why now its happening to everyone and now everyone will see why. THE only time something on my computer breaks or does not work right is when it gets a freaking update
  • @hank01000
Don’t worry guys the next windows will be great.. 😂
  • @TheRenatka7
CrowdStrike falcon is not build in MS Windows. It is an additional software installed on Windows and other OS systems

That's why you should never update right away. Wait a week and then do it. Another great example of why only digital currency is not a good idea.

Every windows update is a “bad” windows update
  • @TBonerton
This exact same thing happened in 2006 or so. McAfee released a DAT update to their virus scan tool and it deleted the critical svchost.exe from Windows XP machines. It caused the computers to endlessly reboot. That was a fun day.
  • @chanm01
"Crowdstrike is built into Windows"? You probably wanted to stop him there and prompt a bit of a better explanation.
  • @ZenCorvus
Applaud that testing effort but it was probably managers and directors who pushed it to go out sooner than it should have. Bad deadlines and overworked employees.

I was baking a cupcake recipe alongside a YouTube video and I'm standing there with the cup of flour in my hand and I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO what a disaster.

Great...Not only should be be concerned about possible Cyber attacks that could happen in the near future, we should also be aware of the fact that the incompetent Engineers of Crowdstrike can present themselves to be a clear and present danger to our worldwide communities. Those IT Techinicans responsible should be fired from their jobs.
