Installing A Towel Ring On Drywall

I recorded this more than 2 months ago and forgot about it, so here it is now :)
Best method to install any kind of accessory like this is to either attach directly to a stud, or have solid blocking behind the drywall to screw it onto. Next best is a toggle bolt, like I used here. Avoid using those crappy plastic expanding anchors that come with these or the screw in type, since they won't hold long term.

Here are some ways that you can help support the work I do in making these videos:

You need a construction adhesive sponsorship already ;)
  • @crusader777
Hey John just wanted to tell you I really appreciate you making all these videos been watching for a few years now and enjoy every last one ! Good job

I‘m so glad all the walls in my house have OSB between the drywall and the studs, so all I need are plain wood screws.
  • One of these (already installed) fell apart in my friends rented apartment, and this video helped me figure out how they work so that I could get the bracket off the wall and re do the screw that holds the loop up. (Would never have seen that itsy bitsy screw on the bottom that holds everything together on my own!) Thanks!

Thanks so much! This was really helpful for me when I needed to re-install a towel ring that had pulled loose from the wall (because it was installed with one of those dumb plastic screws). My husband will be impressed!

The most interesting part of this (to me anyway) was the way you did picture in picture from the same recording of one camera! Nicely done John!

Towel bar....? You got a lady coming over tonight? Lol
  • @davfinport
Oh, and it’s always kids that pull them down thinking they are going to try out for the Olympics
  • @BuntAsHell
Ah yes the ol' John Heisz seal of approval.. construction adhesive
  • @davfinport
I work as a handyman, and not kidding 75% of the houses i go in have at least one towel or tp holder dangling on the wall. Every time it’s because of those plastic shitty anchors. I dont know why they send those with the kits. Toggles are my go to, but can be a pain in the ass. Studs are wonderful when they are there (never). Great video!

Thanks for the tip with the construction adhesive. I think the studs jump around in the wall just to avoid my drill.
  • Woohoooo more PL glue! You're the "PL Master" I'll send you a medal! :D
  • @jakematic
Pretty sure I have that same screwdriver... Years ago someone wanted to sharpen the broken tip on my beater pocket knife. Hell no - it's perfect for small screws, like the ones in glasses !

I did not see the construction adhesive coming. You might need to start playing a dramatic musical cue when the construction adhesive comes out. I watch an auto repair channel (south main auto) and his dramatic brake cleaner entrances are one of the things that sets him apart.

I really like the zip or snap toggles

Thanks John- Great idea with the adhesive. Wish I thunk if it, Also I usually put a dab of locktite on the setscrew. Every time I visit my sister her fix it list includes all the towel bars falling down. I got tired of tightening those tiny screws so I made them sit and stay. Any preference between toggle bolts, mollys, plastic drywall anchors or those newfangled screwy things?
