The MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile System, or ATACMS, is a long-range guided missile that gives operational commanders the immediate firepower needed to win battles behind enemy lines.
With a range of over 300 kilometers, a barrage of ATACMS missiles can wreak havoc on hostile ground formations, artillery batteries, supply depots, communication centers, and other strategic objectives far away from the combat zones.
Each ATACMS missile is packaged within a multiple launch rocket system look-alike launch pod, and it can be launched with different warheads to tear apart all kinds of facilities, armored vehicles, and ground formation with devastating effects.
What’s more, the Army has already announced that a more powerful variant is already under development, and it is expected to have a jaw-dropping range…

Attack 'ums sounds like something I'd buy a bag of at a gas station.

"...the use of ATACMS skyrocketed." I see what you did there.

I was with 4/27 MLRS in the gulf war and they were pretty impressive from our end. Glad I never got to see the recieving end other than what was left behind. I remember the sonic boom from an ATCM waking us up one night. Scared the crap out of us.
  • I was actually one of the technical advisors on the navigation and guidance for parts of this and related systems. I was supporting DARPA at the time. It is a very capable system. Obviously, I can't go into details.

MLRS when you don’t want that grid square to exist any more. I use to love watching them fire their whole pods. I was in the m109a6 paladin but we were always in the field together.
  • If you attack a country and strike it with crusemissiles, against most urban areas(both civilian and millitary). You have no right to set any Red lines in your own country. Slava Ukraina💛💙

@9:10 You described the range of the PrSM's as "499 Km". That's an artificial value applied to comply with the limitations imposed by the Interim Ballistic Missile Treaty. Since Russia abrogated that treaty when they fielded the Iskander-M system, the PrSM's range is probably a good bit longer than 499 Km now.

It is so cool and smart they made the front of the launcher look the same with each size of missile. So if anyone was able to peek at them well enough, they wouldn't be able to tell the range of what was being carried.

The ATACMS is to be replaced with Lockheed Martin's Precision Strike Missile (PrSM), also able to be used in the Himars and M270 Platforms with 500km range, plus 200kms than the ATACMS. They call them the ATACMS on steroids.

Love this channel! Very high quality content! Keep it up 🤠
  • Russia constantly escalates the war and constantly complains about the latest red line. Providing more powerful missiles would simply allow Ukraine to fight back, instead of simply defending itself.

I think there WILL be ATACMS sent to Ukraine - not a lot of them - at $1 Mil each - they are spendy and the GLSDB's are 1/20th the cost and have longer range. But - I do think the US (or other country) WILL send a few ATACMS to the UAF - to ensure the Kerch Bridge remains unable to function enough to use the rail portion. They might have to try more than once - but it has to drop.

In 1991, a truck driver friend parked his rig on the farm I lived on. He was headed to Wilmington NC with a load of some of the first ATACMS.

pronouced AAA tack ems. I used to be a technician on the MLRS system. very effective and accurate mobile indirect fire.

Scary. I think all protagonists should be made to watch this. It might just shorten some wars.

ATACMS sits atop of the all-service 'MS line. Others are: JAVMS, BOMBMS, DRONEMS, HOWITZMS, MORTARMS, SHOOTMS, STABMS, STRIKEMS, - and - BingAI'MS
