did anyone else notice he broke off his center drill at 1.10

Just because you can it does'nt mean you should...

He does understand precision and concentricity by not unchucking the part and turning it all in one setup it will be perfectly round. So many of these utube machinists don't understand that you can't just put something in a three jaw chuck on a lathe and expect it to come out right.

Wow that's some seriously beat up equipment. And yes, sometimes there's a reason something is not taught in school.

Переходные втулки, вращающийся центр, сверлильный патрон - всё вперемешку с песком прямо с цементного пола! Отлично!

And that is exactly why the parts never fit other machines. LOL!

Click bait, the grinder has nothing to do with this video

I’d use my Jones & Shipman cylindrical grinder on the taper and my vertical mill for the flats. Most of all, I’d use the FOUR JAW CHUCK instead of the.bloody three jaw!

That thumbnail photo was uncalled for- not representative of the content. OTOH I love the cleverness. I watch these videos just to see what you can get away with- both in terms of what you can make or do that works at least somewhat, and the level of safety that is seen as acceptable in other cultures. If I were making fundamental parts like Morse Tapers, I would want to make them with less worn equipment with a better surface finish, to ensure that their product was good enough for me to count on. Dude's making pretty rough stuff. But he uses it successfully all day to fix whatever people bring in, so it's good enough for him.

There is a fair bit of hatred towards the butchery on display but looking at the background this guy does not have the air conditioned level workshop floor and all the accompanying western goodness that I personally have with all my lathes ,mills grinders tooling etc. I suspect he would be more likely to drive out of the desert after a breakdown than many of his detractors? My favourite old English saying is an engineer is someone who can fix something for 2 shillings that any fool can fix for a pound.

Super... und der ganze korund auf dem Bett... Danke... 😢
  • That pic is priceless, made me walk around all day with a shit eating grin. Just when you thought you've seen it all, then you get another peek. It wasn't always I had just what I needed to get the job done, I didn't, I grabbed the closest something and turned it into just the right tool for me. Today I look back at some of those precision works of art laying around and wonder wtf is that for.Who in the hell made that? Why I'm gonna load up the truck with all those metal thingamajigs and drop it off at the Smithsonian. Keep on making chips btother, my hat's off to you
