Chromium 115 Running On Windows XP (PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION)

Published 2023-11-25
I was made aware of this browser about a week ago but only got around to trying it today. It seems to run okay and runs natively on unmodified Windows XP (I am using SP3, I don't know if it is required or not.) I have not been using it for more than a couple of hours, so I am not sure how stable it is going to be in the long run, but I will report back in about a week with my opinions. The only bug I have noticed so far is the bar at the top of the browser glitches out sometimes, especially when switching tabs. This does not affect functionality but it is a bit annoying. Please note that the laptop used in the video was a slow machine, so the performance was not that great. I am currently using it on a core 2 quad machine and it preforms just about as well as any other browser would on said hardware. I have not found any sites that do not work or have issues yet but will update in my report back when I make it after using the browser for a while.
One other thing to note is that this browser seems to report to websites that you are using Windows 10, so there is some sort of spoofing going on.

DISCLAIMER: I can not vouch for the safety of this browser, it is open source and the source code is on the git-hub, but I am not a coder, so I can not say for sure if it collects data or not. It appears that it may be a chinese browser like 360chrome is, but from what I have heard, it does not have the telemetry that 360chrome has. Once again, I can not vouch for that. Basically, it seems to work well and is probably fine, but use it at your own risk.

Here is a link to download if you would like to try it out:
github.com/weolar/xpchrome

It will download in a .zip folder which you will need to extract into a folder. From there you can either run the application directly out of the folder, or move the folder somewhere like your C drive, and then right click on the .EXE application in the folder and send a shortcut to the desktop. From there it will run like a normal application when you click on the shortcut. Basically the same installation process as MyPal 68 or K-meleon.
