  • Saying titans aren’t gods is like saying that gods like Zeus aren’t gods, they’re olympians. ( although it’s pretty easy to misunderstand based on how media almost always refers to them as titans)

I actually was born and still live in Greece and I have to tell you that the way you teach these stories is more interesting than what we did in school. Anyhow , amazing video keep up the good work!
  • My general understanding is the Titans are just the “Second Generation” of the Greek Gods with the second generation being crowned by Cronus taking the throne. The first generation was the Primordials ruling through Ouranos. The second generation is the Titans with Cronus as the ruler. The third (and then modern generation) was the Olympians ruled by Zeus. But that more of my understanding of it
  • There's also Aphrodite who is never (at least to my knowledge) referred to as a titan despite her being the (half-?) sister to the titans in Hesiod's version of the myth. Note: I say "half" with a question mark because I'm not clear on whether she is only the titan's half-sister because she is not the daughter of Gaia or if she is considered their full sister because Ouranos is her sole progenitor.

There are a lot of "groups" of gods in the greek mythology, the Olympians for example. There are even groups inside of groups, as the Oceanids, the Pleiades, the Nereids, Hesperides, Hyades, Muses... Were all nymphs.

I think titans are meant to be big since kronus swalloed his children without chewing while zues had to turn his wife into a fly to eat her
  • @arrowmoons
Love your work Jake!!! Also when I pronounce Uranus, I personally pronounce it "oo-ran-os" as it is in many other languages. Just thought I'd throw it out there!
  • Moral of the story: What is a Titan and why are so many early gods considered Titans? No clue.
  • @venabre
The way I organized it in my head was sort of "the gods that were around during Cronos's rule" Probably wrong in a few aspects, but gets the job done for the most part
  • I always assumed it was a generation title. Just like we have titles for different generations (gen-z, millennials, boomers etc.) the Greek God's had titled as well (Olympians, Titans, Primordials etc.). No sources for this one, I just kind of assumed that because it seemed to make sense, I think that's a cool headcanon.

As an anime fan all I can say is well played for the thumbnail 👏😂
  • @JChim
Great job as always. Will you still be doing fully animated videos or is this your new format?
  • I learned very young that the distinction simply meant whether the being was born before or after the castration or Ouranos. Those born after were gods, those before were titans. Never found a source to back it, just learned it in a Greek mythology book in middle school at the book fair.
  • @Thelaretus
The Titans are, however, described as being somewhat more primordial, more ethereal, more dynamic than the Olympians. So they would indeed have less rigid shapes and sizes than their successors, though still not necessarily the giant monsters of pop culture.
  • Even though it’s inaccurate, I like the Titans being portrayed as giant monsters better. It’s just more entertaining.
  • @firebrand723
The way I interpret it is that titan is basically the god equivalent of boomer.
  • @3zeathaa
I LOVE this video!!!!! Keep up the good work jake!
  • @i_Croc
