Thanks for joining us as we navigate through the trials and triumphs of our DIY adventures and a big thank you for all of the support always... we appreciate YOU!

New to our channel? Well, hi there! We're Kristen and Michael, a couple embarking on a wild adventure of transforming our dream desert home into a short-term rental biz!

As crazy as it sounds, we decided to ditch our beloved Los Angeles (which we called home for 7 years) and chase our wildest dreams of owning a piece of land in California. And guess what? We did it! We finally bought our desert house in the summer of 2021, and we've been DIY-ing our hearts out ever since!

We're talking about an (almost) complete renovation, from top to bottom! But that's not all! We're also building our business from scratch, with the goal of sharing our little oasis with our family, friends, and even strangers from all over the world.

So come on and join us on this crazy ride! We promise it'll be full of laughs, tears, and lots of DIY fails (and wins!). Welcome to our channel!

I appreciate the transparency. I love to see owners like myself rather than the 100 door owners. There are things to be learned from them but you guys provide the example for me to keep persevering with my 1 door. Thank you.
  • The greatest part about watching your journey is your dedication to your bnb business and these youtube videos! I think most people don't realize how incredibly time consuming, creating, editing and then sharing this content can be. I love that you've taken the steps to get on the "path" and while there are many people in front of you on their journey, you're continuing to inspire all those behind you!

Morning love this channel my wife and I started an Airbnb on our family farm in NY. We open in June and are shocked we are crushing it already but it’s something different. People can wake up and see the cows in the pasture. We also put in an outdoor shower hot tub and stock tank pool. We will be adding the star gazing platform that is an awesome idea! Thank you so much for sharing your journey. We are starting a different one soon. Excited to keep watching you guys grow! Have a great day.

The transparency helps so many people. Move videos are teasers and click here to learn more types. Y’all are just laying it out and helping. Thank you! Sincerely, A fellow Airbnb host.
  • I don't watch all of your videos, but I do check in from time to time. I love how far you have came with this place. Keep up the great work!!

I really enjoy watching your videos. I am new to vacation rentals having started in July 2023. Had a bumpy start with a property manager but am now self managing and doing much better. I get plenty of inspiration and tips from you guys so thank you for creating your series. It is very helpful for a newbie. Wishing you all the best in the coming years.

I love you guys for being so transparent. I plan to do an airbnb when I get my property. I'm a total clean freak, so that's a plus to start. I've traveled the country and stayed in airbnbs since covid hit. I learned to go for the superhost postings only (because I am a clean freak!). But not all of them were tolerable. I can tell you stories!
  • @CA_40
Great work! I’ve followed your journey for 2 years! (Started my first bnb around same time) you are doing great! It’s ok to become wealthy if you are working hard at it!

My wife and I love you guys. We just started ours in North Texas. “Unique Barn” located in Honey Grove, Texas. I love your ideas. Thank you!! Brent & Cindy K, McKinney, Texas

  • @monicamcgahan
I’m wanting to turn my TX house into a rental in the future and y’all are giving me good ideas. I realize they’re totally different (short term vs long term) but like you say being creative is key 😊 Thank you for being honest!
  • Thank you so much for all of the experiences and information you guys take the time to put out! We started our STR in a different country than we are from (Because we moved!) and your experiences were so vital to us just taking the leap and starting up last March! We got Lodgify because you recommended it and it's been a great resource to manage 2 platforms and keep us newbies organized!!! We are also working on redirecting to our Lodgify direct booking, so it'll be cool to work side by side with you guys to make it happen! Happy new year, and happy STRing!

It is not passive. If you want those 5 stars you gotta work it. People working for you don't care as much. They just want it to be good enough and get paid. I clean my own. But that is because I really want the good reviews. Thank you for sharing your numbers. Everything you guys share on here I really enjoy because I have had lots of similar experience. I was cleaning this morning in one of the units and I remembered that Kristen was asking how to change it the easiest way. I have become an experienced pro at making the beds. This is the secret. When you take off the duvet cover, take it off inside out and leave it inside out. Throw it in the wash. Take your fresh duvet cover which is already inside out, out. Put your bottom sheet on the bed and the top sheet---as far to the top as possible on the top sheet, so as not to short sheet someone when they get in the bed. Take the naked Duvet and put the tag up at the top of the bed, upside down. Then take your duvet cover and put your arms in it while it is inside out and go to the top ends with your hands. Grab the corners inside. Then with your hands looking like mittons inside the duvett, grab the corners of the duvet from the bottom of the bed. Shake the duvet into place and flip the top to the top of the bed. Straighten and you won't have to fight the lumps. It evenly puts the duvet in the insert cover properly. Fold your bed down and then do the pillows last. I cannot tell you how much I hated the bed, now it is a breeze. It helps to be tall, you are kind of petite. So maybe you won't get that arm span. You can also have your husband help you shake it down by holding a corner each. This is why maids usually help each other with them. This took a long time for me to learn the hard way. Good luck.

Thanks for the kick ass video update 🙏 Giving me news ideas in this saturated market to be creative in Toronto Canada 🇨🇦
  • @macksmith2192
Really like the way you have read between the lines of your customer feedback e.g the star gazing deck. Well done.
  • @larryleone496
Good that you included the peripheral revenue streams. I think a lot of hosts either fail to see them or just ignore the opportunities. My place is a farm within a national forest. I offer guests an opportunity to book hunts and will have mountain bikes for rent next Spring.
  • @maggielapido548
Our goals on this journey are very much aligned. My husband and I are in a different stage and we're thinking ahead to our retirement. We have our primary home and the goal is to have guests pay for our retirement home. Equity is important and not spoken about very often. Great video.
