You can buy your tickets online or from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal. They are return tickets (cost under 10 CAD per person) and you don't need to show the ticket when you return to the city.
There are three boats leaving from the Terminal, going to Ward's, Centre Island and Hanlan's Point.
You can go to and return from any of the three locations.
The Toronto Islands is the perfect summer day trip from Toronto, with something to do for everybody: you can have a picnic, walk, bike, canoe and kayak or enjoy one of the beautiful swimming beaches (including a Clothing Optional Beach on Hanlan's Point).
And did I mention that the view of the city is amazing!
