I had a Doberman, his father was from European bloodlines (German). He was noticeably sharper than the American Dobes I had raised and trained before. He was phyically much like this dog. He was bit twice at the dog park as a puppy and developed an aversion to being bit. I had to work with him his entire life, but otherwise he was a WONDERFUL dog. The dog was a serious bad ass. You did not mess with him, and never confront him. He never started a fight but he ended every one. Very easily trainable. I could call him off if another dog attacked him at the park but not before he would do damage. I did not crop his ears but he was so alpha they almost stood on their own! He bit the ear off an out of control Pit Bull terrier at the park that kept confronting him and trying to brawl, and would have drilled him into the ground had I not called him off and ended it (the other dog's owner was not responsible and I warned him to get his dog away from my Dobe as he kept trying to fight with him). With this breed's explosive power and speed they react so fast you really need to show them who is in charge. This is the way the breed was meant to be when F. Luis Dobermann started it. The Euro has a slightly larger head, and the canines are very large and sharp. The message of this post is watch your Doberman at the dog park if he from Europe, especially as a puppy. And I stopped the pulling issue, it takes training...but all Dobes do it, so do Pit Bulls...its the terrier in them (and also Greyhound in the Dobe). It makes them high energy and want to go go go...
