I lived in Paris for a number of years and looked into the legend, spoke with a few people who lived in his quarter and read what I could find. He does have a living descendant living in a property which was inherited from Flamel. I couldn't find out much more than it's a male and he does exist. Perhaps this is a relative of Perenelle. Everything you describe here verifies what I found too, though you've done a much better job. One alternative theory on the source of his wealth was suggested by a prominent Jewish friend, living in the 5th arr, who suggested that the book was a ledger which recorded loans due to Jewish bankers based in the middle east which Flamel, having identified himself as the guardian of the book, was assigned to collect on. This theory kind of stacks up because King Charles did leave him alone. Whatever the reason there is no way the churches and houses for the poor were built using Perenelles inheritance, which was still intact at the time of her death. Legend has it, the archway in the cemetery of the innocents was deconstructed one night and it's parts taken by those who believed they could use them to recreate the philosophers stone. Great job. Thanks again for such interesting research.
