Art Residency Notes: Shanghai, China '24

Published 2024-07-18
I spent my April in Acentric Space art residency in Shanghai, China, where I developed an unusual 3d watercolor piece inspired by an ancient Tao device called Luopan Compass. Some notes on painting processes, field recording and sound design, and generally travelling in an old and mysterious Eastern land (I tried making it brief lol).

Such a beautiful project! I've been working on similar paper 3D collage ideas but on a much smaller scale and with printmaking. It’s my dream to make something larger like this. I loved the interactive elements as well! The clay touch pieces were so cool.

Wow, i am speechless. Would be so cool if this installation could have something like a clock gear mechanism to make clicking sound as its part moves around. Now i am thinking if i need to become filthy rich to buy an original piece or teach myself to draw and make this myself😌
