Sawing a TREASURE on the Sawmill

Published 2023-04-05
Last year while cutting my yearly firewood I noticed a huge maple had some very strange grain, upon further research I discovered it was a Curly Maple with spalting and beautiful Center grain. Here’s a video of me taking it home and the process of sawing it into big slabs.

  • Great tree to cut up. You can almost see the curl looking at the bark rolls. Good chatting with you on Saturday.

  • How's she goin'? That is a big log and heavy too eh!! Your cart did well to lift it. Then when you cut it open. Wow, some nice!!! The mill worked hard to get through it but what a piece eh. What are you going to make form this wood Russell? Live edge table top comes to my mind. That piece would be worth working on and putting a professional finish on it. It's beautiful for sure. Thanks for sharing. Take care!!

There was an association it was called the Clare Woodlot Owners Association, at one time we had over a 1000 members, lt was disbanded about 5 / 8 years ago we couldn't get enough members to have a meeting, we had at every meeting what you are talking about, invited guess but with no interest it just fizzled out.
