This split pea soup is what comfort food is all about! Made with a ham bone and meaty chunks of ham, it's hearty, flavorful, and super easy to make at home!

Split pea soup is a must-make recipe after you've cooked a ham for Easter, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. Green split peas are simmered with veggies and a meaty ham bone until they're softened, for a perfectly chunky, veggie-heavy soup with deep pork flavoring. This has always been one of my mom's favorite soups, and honestly, who can resist it? I guarantee you'll definitely be going back for seconds!

I love this woman. I could listen to her all day. Recipes are great and certainly getting me going on my lifestyle adjustment.

Yes indeed, I remember the Original Pea Soup Anderson's in Buellton, Ca. on the way to Solvang, Ca. EVERYTHING on the menu came with a bottomless bowl of pea soup, for making HUNDREDS of Gallons of pea soup every day, that soup was truly remarkable. As a teenager I had a Club Sandwich and 3 or 4 bowls, on my Honeymoon I had the same thing with only 2 bowls and on the various Anniversaries I still ate 2 bowls. 😋

My husband and I went there maybe ten years ago. Their split pea soup was SOOOO good! According to Google it looks like they're still open!
  • Wow! Never expected a Dutch recipe on this channel! In The Netherlands we make this recipe with celeriac root instead of celery and top it with slices of a dutch smoked sausage. We eat this recipe on cold winter days.

I’m going to cook this for my elderly parents and meal prep it for them, my dad absolutely loves pea soup. Thanks for the awesome recipe 😊
  • Made the Pea soup today with a meaty ham bone. Easy, worked up quickly, and even cleaned up the kitchen completely while it came to a boil before the decrease to a simmer. Love your recipes. Great, simple recipes with amazing flavors that taste like "home."
  • I don't eat pork anymore. It took me a long time to figure out a good substitute for ham... Smoked turkey wings... Actually any smoked turkey, but I save the wing tips and scraps for soup... any recipe that calls for ham bone or smoked ham hocks, I now use smoked turkey. 💖🌞🌵😷

This is the exact recipe my mom made too, except she used the yellow split peas. Everyone who tasted it just flipped for the flavor and she always was handing out the recipe. Thank you for the memory. I'll be making this for sure after Easter.
  • @0316Heather
I didn’t use ham, but this recipe was truly fantastic without any meat flavoring ❤ Fresh thyme was also a delicious addition. Thank you for making so many recipes that are easy to adjust to a plant based diet!

Andersen split pea soups! Headquartered in Buelton, CA.... and my dad would always say the same thing as your mom. He also (having "come over" from Sweden) called the soup Thursday soup, He told me that as the week went on, proteins were harder to purchase until payday, so soups like split pea started appearing by Thursday;-) Haven't thought about it in years. Thanks for taking me down memory lane. And I'm headed to the kitchen to make a batch!

Wow! I made this yesterday and it’s amazing! So much flavor 🤩 Thank you Lisa
  • I love all your recipes! You actually taught me how to make hardboiled eggs and it works 100%! I've passed it on to many people and if I tell you how many people have irregular times on making it eggs. Big Thank you again! Lory Earles Staten Island NYC

I can almost smell how good this is. This is pretty much the way I was taught to cook pea soup. I just add celery and potato’s in our pea soup, along with the carrots and garlic. I serve it with fresh hot French bread.

Rock-solid, no-frills home cooking. Beautifully cooked with fresh ingredients. I get hungry. I love legumes in every form and they should actually be on the table much more often than high-quality and tasty protein suppliers with plenty of fiber. 👍👍
  • I tried this recipe tonight, and it was fantastic! It's part of my rotation for sure!
  • @ET76001

  • @doralevitt2879
I was just looking for a split pea soup recipe and yours caught my eye, plus I liked the way you explained things. I have a number of digestion issues and split pea soup is always very soothing to me accept I'd have to leave out the onions. Infact I'm going to make this soup for my birthday on the 24th when I go visiting to my son's house then- thank you!! 🤩😋🤗💖🍲

Great recipe! Making it again today for rainy weather dinner. Thank you, Lisa!
