super surprised to see Wanda on this show, I never thought I'd see the day - the dynamic on this episode is going to be top-notch for sure
  • We did the same as kids! We would all be running or on our bikes behind the truck as the "mosquito man" went around the neighborhood. My Mom would beg us not to do that and said it was bad for us, but we thought Mom felt that way about everything. I can tell you as an adult, and my mother long gone, she was right about everything and was just a woman before her time.

We must be around the same age. I'm from South Jersey in the US. We would ride our bikes behind the mosquito man and play. It's amazing that everyone calls him the same thing, the mosquito man.

That was the cutest story, because every child loves to play hide and seek in a "fog" - though this one was a lethal dose for fumigation! Graham Norton asked if " she didn't mind" sharing it - looks like she was very happy to for him and us!
  • Did the same thing... even asked our parents if it was ok cause we was so little and they sent us out in the street to play in a fog that can kill us...

We called it "the fog truck". Down the street it would come, middle of the summer, usually just at dusk (late - this was Mississippi), and everyone would run through it, playing, acting the fool. Oddly, mosquitos don't bother me much these days, 50-some odd years later. And I glow in the dark!

She told this story is in her special: I am an entertainer
  • I don't know if I should be happy or sad to find out how many of us ran behind or, in our case, rode our bikes behind the mosquito man's truck. Fun in the fog!!

We did the same here in Canada, we ran behind the truck, best day ever we didn't get bitten by blackflies all the rest of the day, we would play out way late.

Yeah, this was in around '64 when the Squito Man would come around. Notices were sent out that bring your kids inside and the fogger truck would slowly roll through the neighborhoods. Once in a while my mom would forget and we'd be outside at 8pm as the fog truck would roll through and pretend like we were in an episode of The Outer Limits. I remember an older neighbor boy leaped onto the rear bumper, there was a handle attached at the back, he would hold onto the handle and squat down to the huge round pipe that was fogging and wave his hand through the fog as it shot out of the back and show the rest of the kids his had as if to say, see it didn't hurt. I often wonder if that kid is still alive. its a wonder any of us are still alive This was in Illnois.

I lived in South Korea in the mid 90s, first time I ever saw those trucks. Kids loved them there too lol
