📢 If you're new to the Goldendoodle world, we're sure you've seen dog breeders using the letters F1 and F1B. There are significant differences between an F1 and F1B Goldendoodle in terms of the amount of shedding, how hypoallergenic they will be, and the amount of hybrid vigor they will receive. In this video, we explain the main differences between an F1 vs. F1B Goldendoodle.

👉 A Quick Overview

F1 Goldendoodle is going to be 50% Poodle and 50% Golden Retriever by genetics. The F1 Goldendoodle is a cross between a 100% Poodle and 100% Golden Retriever which yields a first-generation F1 Goldendoodle that is 50% Poodle and 50% Golden Retriever.

F1 Goldendoodle Characteristics:
● Coat Type: Unknown. It could be straight, wavy, or curly.
● Hypoallergenic: Not Guaranteed.
● Non-shedding: Not Guaranteed.
● Hybrid Vigor: Yes!

The F1B Goldendoodle is 75% Poodle and 25% Golden Retriever. In order to get an F1B Goldendoodle, you need to breed an F1 Goldendoodle and backcross it with either a 100% Poodle or a 100% Golden Retriever. Almost always, a Goldendoodle breeder will choose to breed an F1 Goldendoodle with a 100% Poodle because of the nonshedding and hypoallergenic features. Breeding an F1 Goldendoodle (50% Poodle and 50% Golden Retriever) with a 100% Poodle yields an F1B Goldendoodle which is (75% Poodle and 25% Golden Retriever).

F1 Goldendoodle Characteristics:
● Coat Type: Wavy or curly.
● Hypoallergenic: Yes.
● Non-shedding: Yes.
● Hybrid Vigor: Yes, but less so than an F1 Goldendoodle.

  • I have an F1b standard Goldendoodle She’s only seven months and she’s huge really big already. And I don’t think she’s done growing LOL. She’s very vocal and has separation anxiety because she’s been with me all day since I got her at eight weeks old. She is the sweetest thing ever. They are so smart and are easy to train which makes it so much even more awesome. I’ve had her for a couple months now and I can’t imagine my life without her. She is literally a part of me I call her my little girl but her name is Goldie ♥️🐩🐩🐩

My 9.5 years golden retriever just past away by cancer two months ago. I still feel traumatized by that. After we realized golden retriever is the highest possibility breed for cancer, we decided to get a doodle instead of another golden retriever. This video is very helpful for us. Thank you.

I have always wondered what the F1 and F11B meant. Thanks so much for clarifying this for me. As it turns out, I now know that my Goldendoodles who I had for 15 1/2.years was a F1B. After I recover from the loss off this joyful and smart dog, I will be in the market for anther Doodle. Thanks for the service you provide.
  • Had 2 wonderful F1's and both lived until almost 15. Just got our new F1B and hoping for as much success in health. Smart - yes, curly - yes, temperment - great. Healthy - hoping for great!

My family recently got our first dog, she’s a F1B golden doodle and she’s just so adorable and chill and calm❤️ I love her

Standard poodle owner here! I'd been looking for a goldendoodle for almost a year, when I met a standard poodle owner who convinced me to "poodle" instead of "doodle" -- and I'm so glad I did! My standard poodle is hypoallergenic, has an easier coat to maintain than most doodles (groomers agree on this too, and it costs me less money to groom as a result), great temperament, calm, intelligent, amazing with children, and responsibly bred with health testing. If you like the doodle "look" just ask your groomer to give your standard poodle a goldendoodle haircut. Both standard sized F1B Goldendoodles and standard poodles have the same curly coat -- the only aesthetic difference is how their hair is cut!
  • I have an F1B crossbacked with a poodle and she sheds quite a bit. She has curly hair. She is very big. Her dad the poodle is 120lbs. Maggie is a Great dog! So laid back and sweet! She weighs around 90. We love her so much! She's going on 7yrs now.

Thank you! Very well explained. I 've seen both terms and had no idea.
  • Great video. Easy to understand breakdown. My F1b golden doodle, Appa, appreciates you!
  • Thank you for the clarity in the breakdown. We are the lucky owners of an F1b golden. Hands down the most loving, snuggly, make you laugh out loud, and voted most likely to “borrow” the turkey from the thanksgiving table. We love this dog!

Thank you for sharing your video with us. ❤️ So much clarification between the two of F1 and F1B. I am thinking of getting a Golden-doodle in couple of weeks but can’t decided on which ones; whether a male coffee/ coco or a creamy white with blue eyes female. They’re 6 weeks old sooo cute and It is a little pricey though.
  • I will be sure to share this video to our new puppy families 😊 Subscribed
