Imagine a mantis trying to explain that hes not creepy for staring at you. He's just always staring at everything.

The mantis isn't tracking you... Or is it? Vsauce music plays

I always loved the fact that praying mantises had "pupils" that looked around at you. It made their faces expressive in a way other bug faces aren't.

That "Doesn't mean it isn't watching" gave me chills.

Love that they recognized someone’s fear, broke it down into science, and then reinforced it again 😂

Ok, the practical explanation with straws was genius move.

Honestly, the fact that they're watching everything, ALL the time is more terrifying than following me around.
  • The way that they turn their heads to look at you just gives them so much personality compared to most insects.

“ The praying mantis is so eerie” The praying mantis: 😗
  • I love insects. Creeped me out a little when I was a kid. Now at 63 I am fascinated by how the survive. Thank you! ❤❤

The straws explanation is the best example you could've used!

So if I'm on the left and a friend is on the right, its eyes would appear to be both looking to the left and right directly at each of us. Neat

    1. I’ve always thought the praying mantis is one of the coolest creatures on the planet. 2. Terrifying & beautiful at the same time.

It's never creeped me out, I have, do and always will be adorable 🥰

I get so excited when I see a mantis. What an absurdly beautiful animal
  • @MisterDutch93
That was such a good way of explaining how the pseudo-pupil works. I never really thought about how it follows you around, but the straws made me understand immediately!
