Emerging Technologies: Perspectives from EdTech Developers and Judges

As educators, we witness the constant introduction of new edtech products, with some disappearing almost as quickly as they arrive. The emergence of large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT has sparked a wave of new applications aimed at enhancing language learning. In this presentation, I will review impactful educational technologies over the past decades and spotlight the latest innovations with the potential to shape the future of language teaching and learning.
As a technology developer, edtech founder, competition judge, and academic researcher, I will also provide a review of and analysis of the products that reached the finalist stage in the LaunchPad competition organized by the Language Flagship Tech Center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense to facilitate academia-industry conversations. Participants will have opportunities to offer input and ideas to shape the future of edtech and ensure new products meet the real needs of teachers and students alike.
