Martians, Armpit Parasites, And Gunplay in Space | From the Monsters POV | It The Terror

Published 2023-09-10
When I was young I would hide in the kitchen and watch the b/w television in the middle of the night, when creature feature movies were played in my little corner of Michigan. I always wondered about the rest of the story, whenever monsters were found in the jungle or on alien planets. As an adult, I decided to create my own backstories for these creatures.

In this story I examine the planet Mars. The surface of Mars has huge canyons and valleys where ancient civilizations once thrived, slowly giving way to extinction as the planet dried up, losing water and resources to the natural forces of the environment. Yet some of the Martians remained, and their glorious civilization became embittered, turning an intelligent, technological, and highly learned race into barbarians. Yet the few who remain try to survive in their own way, using their natural abilities, the creatures in the environment, and rituals to maintain existence. So few are left now, and then they are visited by a strange thing from the sky...

This is part of an ongoing project. I will be adding more stories as time goes by, attempting to explain these creatures, what kind of society they may have had, what kind of ecology that spawned them.

What do you think? Do you have an idea for a back story of an alien or monster that appears in science fiction movies of today or yesterday? Please tell me what you think below.

I did always wonder about the beings who built KRONOS -- we know they had the power to turn energy into matter, and we know they had utterly depleted their planet of energy, hence the robot ("accumulator"). Always believed there were fleets of the things and we jus happened to get one. But I didn't often do that -- sometimes things don't need an origin! But your experience reminds me of mine in watching THRILLER -- the show with Boris Karloff -- I used to come halfway down the steps and watch the old Philco while my parents were in the dining room playing Canasta with a couple who always came over that night for the game. They just left the TV on and whatever they had been watching, it was on the THRILLER channel (NBC).
