About OFF GRID with DOUG and Stacy
In 2010 we decided to sell everything and build a log cabin on 11 acres. We have lived in the log cabin for a decade now with no solar power or wind power plus zero public utilities. We live like the pioneers except in the 21st century. We post videos on social media to encourage people to return to the land and make a living with your family. We teach folks:
*Off grid living *Rain water catchment *Cooking with wood
*Food growing *Cooking from scratch *Raised bed gardening
*Food harvesting *fermenting the harvest *food preservation
*Holistic Remedies like Grandma made *How to make money and live this life
*storing food in a root cellar *DIY Build projects
*Animal Husbandry *Raising Chickens, Guinea, Turkeys and Ducks
All of our videos are made to empower you to break free and LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE!

I grew up foraging berries with my Cherokee mother. She made elderberry jelly which I never liked. When I learned how high in vitamin C it was, I foraged some by the side of a country road and went home and made a tincture. Wow! It’s better than the expensive hard bitter supplement I was trying to choke down every day —I had chronic sinus problems and the tincture fixed that! 👍🏼

Stacy you should plant them behind the bee hive along the fence row. They would provide shade and a wind break in summer for the hives and I am sure the bees would love the flowers.
  • It’s safe for animals too. I have a 21 year old cat who had a sinus infection and I gave him a drop of elderberry in the morning and one at night and after a week he was more healthy before he got sick. ❤

I started my day today with a cup of elderberry tea, then i saw this. :)
  • I make elderberry products for my farmers market business. Last year, I started making elderberry chutney. Customers loved it and came back for more! 💜

I PURCHASED these branches from this company! They are wonderful!!

Elderberry is one of the medicines I use for my mast cell disease. I'm growing my own now, so this video is perfectly timed as they just arrived as bare roots in the mail!
  • This is the first time I've heard that American Elderberry has no cyanide vs European Elderberry. Time to do some research on this! Links to info would be much appreciated 😄
  • I learned so much about American Elderberries in the first 10 minutes that I went straight to River Hills Harvest site and ordered cuttings and a elderberry honey kit. thank you so much for sharing so much good information and for being such a joy to watch.😊
  • Elderberry is the favorite snack for all my birds! So glad I ordered starts from Terry!

Doug and Stacy, great video. Thanks for having Terry on.

About a year and a half ago we made some Elderberry Syrup (Elderberry, honey, clove, ginger). I diluted it down to a specific gravity of about 1.100, added yeast, and turned it into wine. After bottling it, we stored it in a nice dark place and forgot about it until about a month ago. Absolutely the best wine we've ever made. Full bodied, fantastic flavor. We're down to one bottle and I'm regretting not having started another batch or two.

Last year when my wife and I were picking our elderberries one of the branches broke off. We decided to try and propagate some of the broken branch. We did the cuttings and boy did they take off. I later planted them and can't wait to see how they are doing right now. Thanks for this information on how to use our elderberries in more ways than just jelly. I plan on trying these and especially the ones with honey since we are also beekeepers. Thanks again for a great video.
  • Terry's great , Thank You for having him fun today learn this 🎉
  • @user-rx4bi1ic4z
I wish you guys would bring out several volumes of books covering everything from building a home to preserving elderberries. They'd be popular I reckon! :)
  • I got elderberry starts from River Hills Harvest and now every year I harvest and make my own elderberry syrup.
  • This is one of the best programs you have done. Terry know his stuff. I appreciate the ones you did with him. Have a great night tonight and a great day tomorrow.

This is so timely! I just discovered that the shrubs that have been annoying me for years are American Elderberries! I did a 180 real quick. I spent about an hour clearing out all of the dead cane and only left the live ones but now I know I can go through and cut them down to the ground and they'll grow! It's February here too. Like I said, perfect timing! Thank you!
